lil' help please w/ B+ species
    #2146423 - 11/30/03 01:08 PM (14 years, 6 months ago)

I was wondering about my B+ cakes. The mushrooms are growing but on a few I?ve noticed that the webbing is surrounding the stem, is this normal??

When you say webbing are you refering to the viel from the cap? And if so when you say surround what do you mean?

Or is it mycelium from the cake starting to grow up the stem?

That is fine... it happens when you grow 'em at home because the cakes need so much humidity, mycelia grows on the shrooms.

This happens more at home than in the wild. Stagnant, humid air is good for myc.

In nature, wind keeps the mushroom stems nice and dry.

No, it's not bad. It's normal.

Above musings are entirely fictional.  I do not grow mushrooms nor do I associate with anyone who does.

so if I decide to pick them and eat them, hypothetically speaking in pure fiction, should I eat them as is or do I have to do something?

Mushies are made of mycelia... a little more won't hurt. Wash 'em if they grew on poo... hypothetically.

If you eat them fresh, hypothetically? Just get all the verm or casing material off and sit back and enjoy the ride.
