Hericium Americanum turning brown.
    #21459485 - 03/26/15 08:13 AM (8 years, 11 months ago)

I have a beautiful bear's head grow going on right now. A good 7-10 big puffy 4" dia balls of mushroom tastiness from just one bag! There are a bunch of what I can only assume are aborts, which are smaller mushrooms, that have turned brown.

I am wondering if this may have something to do with lack of humidity, or maybe air exchange. I feel as though I am providing adequate amounts of both, but I may be wrong.

Break it down for me fellas.

I appreciate any assistence!

or it could be too wet. mature LM fruits don't like standing moisture on them. they bruise and rot. I think BHT is the same but I've never grown it myself

Do you have a hygrometer?

I have a digital hygrometer. I'm not terribly worried. There are a lot of healthy good ones left. I think the browning is actually from standing water, as niki said. I picked one and it felt very saturated, and tasted quite sour, also. They are taking a long time to mature, they keep getting bigger, but no teeth so far except on a few small ones. They are more like spikes than teeth though.

Ty for the input fellas. Btw, my hygrometer outside of the fruiting chamber generally reads 60+. I run a humidifier in the room.
