It's better to use them outside or in a garage lol. Definitely wouldn't put one on carpet!

Yeah that's why I wanted to make this thread to help me pick the right hot plate. I signed a year lease on this new place, but I may be here even longer. A baller hot plate will make my life so much easier. My girlfriend won't complain about the noise or the smell if I don't run the PC in the kitchen :awesomenod:

i use this one for a fully packed 941.  it was most powerful one i could find that would still do 120v outlets.  takes about 2.5 hours to vent/get to pressure.
probably less time for smaller PC.
gas is faster, but, in this particular situation, i had no choice.

I need a bigger PC. 7qt jars at a time just doesn't cut it no more:shrug:

Id like to PC half gallon jars for stones.

http://www.amazon.com/Proctor-Silex-34101-Proctor-Silex-Burner/dp/B000690WNU

Ive tried almost every hot plate known...
I pound em into the ground till they die!

Some die quick... 3 pc runs and heat melts the wiring or heating element dies.
They're not really geared towards 2 hr PC runs cranked on high...
However....

There is one that can take it!
PROCTOR SILEX.

by far the best. Takes a full beating for years!

The worst was black & decker at a 2 week lifespan.

Proctor silex all day!
Cheap too!

that one i linked has about 85 lbs sitting on it ( 54lbs grain plus 35ish lbs from the AA941), on high, for over 7 hours, including heat up and cool down.
its pretty boss, but also pricey.

How long did it take you to reach pressure when the gauge started rocking?

2.5 hours

if there is access to a 22v outlet, i'd get a more powerful one.
gas is the best choice, but not necessarily allowed in all cases.

Completely off topic but who knows anything about psilocybe ovoideocystidiata?
what type of wood they like? Are old wood pallets good? How should I go about sterilization?
I couldn't find a whole lot of info on em

Word. That one looks baller too. I need to get a powerful one. I think just about any of the cheap ones would handle my presto 23 but I'm gonna get a 930 at some point.

Yeah my grow room has carpet and a carbon monoxide detector. Not appropriate for gas, lol.

I was reading over my PC instruction manual again and it says not to use an outdoor LP gas burner It says it can warp the bottom. Do all PCs say that? Am I Still safe to buy one if I'm careful?

I think a large AA like a 930 or 941 is thick enough that it can handle a gas burner, but I wouldn't put my presto on one.

Are AA's even made for glass-top stoves? Always assumed no but the prestoes are. I have used prestos on a gas stove many times

youtube has a video of an AA with a glass top. Cant find it but I don't care to look for it. It was a smaller model, I think he fit 5-6 qts?

I linked my opinion. Well, you did really. Idk, I look at it like your PC. I bought a mirro. Now I wished I would have just kept the cash and bought something that is quality. Now ill be well over 300 invested in just pressure cooking hardware. Food for thought.

Fooman approves

So does Eaglesgift

Their opinion is highly regarded.

I can start venting in 15-20 min with my mirro, I have yet to use an AA on it. So idk.

The only thing I don't like, is that it has a temp control. Most non lab grab plates do. It switches heat up and down to control the heat. And it can be kinda drastic until you get the feel for it. It can change your PC time. I just go for 2 hours. 45min-1 hour for agar.

I like my presto. I can fit 10 quart jars in there, but I'm phasing out quart jars in favor of half gallons. Half gallon jars cut your work in half, but my presto can only fit 4. I bet the 930 can fit 6 so really I could do a run of 10 half gallons with a hot plate and the 930. Of course I'd have to still run the presto on the stove to do them at the same time.

I'm gonna grow at least enough edibles to snag a few bucks at the farmer's market, and if that works I'm gonna start selling them to a retailer.

I've used a gas burner for my All American 921. It worked well. Just make sure you use a gas burner outside or in a shed that has a concrete floor or something. If you use a gas burner inside you risk heating up your floor and damaging it, especially if it isn't made from concrete.

You can get cheap gas burners from eBay and Amazon. Turkey fryers would be great to use. The Bayou brand has some awesome burners for this hobby.
