Oysters? Good for my table?
    #21456966 - 03/25/15 06:45 PM (9 years, 1 month ago)

California Coast.
Cow pasture on a downed branch. I think they were high in the tree somewhere.

I saw a lone one 20 ft from where my primary find was at. I left it be.
My question is , are these oyster mushrooms.? Im familiar with the creamish white colored ones.

They looked good to me. I only got to see them for about 10 seconds before my phone went crazy, but looked right. Gills running all the way down to the stem

I don't know, could be Panus conchatus.

I switched to my computer so I could view....they do look a little "off" but it was my understanding that there are no deadly look alikes to oysters, is that correct Ran-D? like you said they could be lilac oysters or Panus conchatus. but those are still edible, just kind of tough. The vase shape is throwing me off on the bigger ones, but small ones resemble oysters I find here in WA. I would trust a TI, I can say "yup, that's a oyster" in person.

It tastes just like
Pseudohydnum gelatinosum raw.
They arent too tough since I rinsed and refrigerated em but they were rather tough in the field.
I was playing with one childishly.. sticking my thumb into the funneled cap.. creating a suction cup.. I had oyster fingers lmao.
