Will MA be the next state (not #3) to legalize recreational potsmoking?
    #21456222 - 03/25/15 04:01 PM (9 years, 1 month ago)

So I'm not sure if there has been a thread on this recently, but it has been in the news that politicians in MA are pushing to just legalize weed before it even goes to a ballot question.  They expect it to pass, and they are already creaming in their dress slacks over the $50 million in taxes they see going to the state of Colorado.  If there's one thing that all MA politicians love, it is getting tax money.  I would like to see this money go back into the state but if they need to do a few backroom deals to get the law passed sooner I say whatever, just get the dispensaries up already.  I wish the same people who were putting people in jail a few years ago weren't the first in line to get in on this money train, but still, it's nice.

Are there any other states in the running here for #3?  I haven't looked too much, but it's all over the radio and news that this is what is most likely going to happen in MA.  When I started smoking I thought I would never see the day, we used to talk about how awesome it would be, and now it finally seems to be happening!  There is some opposition to the legislative attempt, but they say when it gets put to a public vote the trend of people being favorable to this should continue.

I'll toke to that!  :bobmarley:

Uuuum... forgive me if I'm mistaken, but my home state of Alaska legalized it this past year. Alaska was the third state.

Ok yeah I kinda though I might be missing somebody.  Anyways, we will be the first commonwealth I think  unless one of those other states is also a commonwealth.

I mean on the radio they made a pretty good point that MMJ was passed a while ago but they are dragging their feet there and not opening dispensaries because they are making it so only favored parties can be involved in this business, and the people who are calling the shots seem to be clueless as to how to put this into practice.  The law might get passed and we still won't have dispensaries.  I just can't wait though because if it becomes legal to grow I am definitely going to start.  The only thing stopping me now is that I don't want to take the risk of getting caught, but just even being able to grow as a hobby without having to be all guerrilla about it has always been a dream of mine.

I'm not sure how realistic this is, but I also heard on the radio that Colorado is considering writing every citizen a check because this whole experiment brought in so much more money than expected.  It is kinda funny how much sense it makes.  Like give tons of money to criminals or reinvest it in the state?  Seems such an easy choice when you have all the facts and get over the fact that so many people are smoking anyway even when it was totally illegal.

I do almost feel bad for my friends who have survived for their whole adult lives selling weed privately, but hopefully the industry will create better jobs for people like that and they can actually start paying taxes like the rest of us.
