Is my S.Divinorum ready for a cutting to be taken?
    #21455049 - 03/25/15 10:08 AM (9 years, 1 month ago)

This is my second attempt at growing Salvia Divinorum and since my first one died I'm quite scared of losing this one. I'm wondering if I'm good to take a cutting from it now? I'm quite nervous about just doing it because the branches dont look that big and the plant doesn't have a lot of leaves.

I wouldnt.

Whats the rush?

The branches look much to thin to survive, and the plant is pretty small to begin with, so taking one of its main branches may prove too stressful for the plant.

I wouldnt start taking cuttings until the plant is much bigger and more likely to bounce back after a loss.
Id say at least until it starts producing leaves that are as big as your hand.

I took cuttings that were as thin as those, however the mother plant is much larger than yours.
Just don't over water or over fertilize and you should avoid most death scares.
Like, I haven't watered any of my plants in 3 weeks because they haven't showed signs of needing it.
What I have been doing is waiting for slight drooping in the leaves, then giving them small amounts of water on top and flooding the water catcher with a few ounces.

Keep in mind I only started growing this plant back in December 2014, with just one. So I am still new to this as well.

Yeah, thanks for the replies guys. I'm just paranoid because my previous plant went pretty well then all of a sudden it just went black and died. The top of the stem on that plant is wilted because I accidentally snapped it. Guess I'll just wait, cheers.

Yeah, hes right about the watering, thats like the number one way to kill the plant.
Always wait for the leaves to show signs of drooping before watering.

And that plant probably shouldnt be fertilized in a while. Id wait until its more stable.

Good luck with it

When it gets big enough for cuttings you should update or start a new thread with pictures to show us how it goes.
