Palm Tree Logs - any comments?
    #21454635 - 03/25/15 07:58 AM (9 years, 1 month ago)

Greetings All,

Has anyone had a chance to experiment with Palm Tree Logs? As far as density properties goes, they seem to be opposite of Oaks - "The hardest, densest part of the wood is found on the outer perimeter of the trunk, which gives the tree its strength, while the wood’s high silica content gives the tree elasticity. Towards the centre of the trunk, the wood gets less hard."  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coconut_timber#Properties  -  I suppose this would mean if trying this - I may have better results with sawdust/totem methods as that would ensure the softer wood would get inoculated first and have a better chance of colonization?

Thanks,

Never experimented but I am sure this tree would work out just fine considering we use coco coir in lots of mushroom applications.

Hmm. I'm suddenly eyeing the palm tree in my garden with renewed interest...
