spore to agar?

Greetings, Ive read much about colonizing graian with spores, and then making agar plates from there, but is it possible to inoculate agar plates with spores and then colonize grain from there? I ask because I have lots of access to agar plates which can be used in a top-notch sterile hood, and I imagine it would be easier in my situation to inoculate plates under the hood and then colonize from there with less opportunity for contaminants then it would be inoculating grains under a makeshift (cardbord) hood...

Yep i do it all the time, I put a few drops from a multi spore syringe onto plates just to make sure the syringe is clean and to choose sections that have more aggressive growth then i transfer that to other plates, works like a charm!

Excellent, sounds good! I've only used agar plates for cloning at this point, but i cant imagine from spores would be terribly different. Am i correct in assuming this would be a good way to reduce contamination?
One more noob question. How long will a cubensis culture survive on agar? The fungi I'm working with don't last very long (a month or two for most of the weaker ones?) However, I'm simply plating them, bagging them, and storing them. Is there anything I can do to increase their survival time? Ideally I'd want cultures which could survive at least 3 months without intervention if this is at all possible...

I've had plates in the fridge before up to 6 months or more, i like to store the plates a few days after i do transfers because I've had fully colonized plates stored in the fridge that grew out of the Petri dish.
I would nt necessarily say that it reduces contamination because plates definitely will and do get contaminated at times especially with a spore syringe, but i love agar it's awesome because you can see the contamination on the plates and separate healthy mycelium away from the contamination and transfer the section to another plate, I've had plates contaminate on the 2nd transfers also, if so I'll do a 3rd transfer and see what happens. Just to be on the safe side i would transfer healthy mycelium 2-3 times to be sure
