The Senior citizen or Geriatric cactus thread. 1

After seeing people's Nursery photos and baby cacti, I thought it would be fun to make an opposite thread for people's OLDEST plants.
These 2 images are from My Oldest cactus. I purchased this plant in the 1990's with my mother, at a home center of a department store when cacti were more plentiful as a nursery plant, for house plants. (Honestly, cacti as a house plant are hard to come by now days at the stores here in the pacific northwest).
Anyway, this plant was rootbound, covered in pups, and had some scar tissue. I get her on discount and nursed her back to health.
Here she is 20 years later. I know that one day she will get too old to go on, but I hope to get a few more flower cycles and pups from her, before she shows her last flower.
I urge the rest of you, to show us your ELDER collection, plants. Show us your honored and revered aged plants.

the second image shows her other side with scar tissue and pup attachment sites.

This is my oldest plant. I got it as a small offset around 1980 and this is what it looked like in 2009. It has grown little since then. I have no recent pictures because it's a pain to move it. It's a wonderful Mammillaria geminispina.

That's awesome, LSoares. I love Mammillarias. I have a few kinds I am starting. (Taylorium, Huitzipotlii, and Tlalocii). The elderly cacti, I thought deserved a special thread all of their own.

Awesome cacti everybody
I have been collecting cactus for 3 years and here is the first globular cactus I bought 2 years ago from a well cared for nursery. The cactus came unlabeled and I assume its a gymnocalcium of some sort , the idetification book I read makes me point towards Gymnocalcium Mostii. It is sprouting 11 new pups

Awesome photo JayZ'
Im glad your plant was well cared for. In the case of mine, she was neglected and needed some TLC.
Yeah, I got a soft spot for gymno's ,.. my oldest one above there is a gymno. I have been starting a few more varieties from seed. As they develop, I'll share more images of them.

Being new to cactus i do not have super old ones. actually I own 3 species that might be older than others because I already had them before my recent addiction, one of which is a notocactus ottonis that I bought when I was around twelve (relatively small for it's age because not well cared but still healthy ) I find cool that your relate your cactus as her. But who decides if a cactus is "male" or "female"? I wonder that lophlophs and mammillarias are ladies and trichs and aztekiums are gentlemen?

Being a latin-language native speaker like you, I tend to assign a gender to the plants based on the gender of the genus. In english, I always refer to the cacti as "it".

I'm getting almost the same clump of parodia for my birthday
I wonder, why do they tear up apart with growt? i have a little exemplar (started pupping) that has 2 big tears on it's side, i do not overwater, maybe they have weak walls?

Yes, you did overwater. Not by the usual standards, but those tears are splits from overwatering. I gave up trying to keep this species "clean". They come from places where they get water all year and maybe they just can't stand being completely dry for any length of time, I don't no. I keep ALL my former Notocactus (and most "regular" Parodia as well) in the open all year with no ill observable effects. It's more likely they get damaged by the cold than by water during winter.

I wish I had something decent to add to this thread. These are my oldest and most venerable plants:
 Cereus peruvianus "monstrose"
 Echinopsis pachanoi
Went to San Diego a while back and saw a bunch of cool old shit at Balboa Park.
 Basketball sized ferocactus.
    "Dragon Tree"
Forget the name of this genus
Trichocereus spachianus just chilling in a yard in Valley Center.

I am really happy to come back to this thread and see some more plants posted here.
I went by one of my favorite Nursery locations yesterday, and picked up 2 pedros that are about 6 inches tall.. When I brought them home I divided them, as they were rootbound in their pot, and not well cared for. Now, the part that relates to this thread, is that in an urn in the corner, they had a specimen Pedro. The specimen plant was a good 6' foot tall. I didn't even bother to look at the pricetag. LOL. I had not seen it in the shop, last time I visited. They have things come in and out of their shop all the time.
If I go back, I'll at least take my camera. I am thinking of going back in a few days to purchase a Mammilaria-senilis, or perhaps the Rebutia-perplexa cluster, that they are offering.
Keep posting your elder-plants people. I love seeing them. Kizatz'

I'm no expert but this has got to be thw oldest cactus I own. It's got to be easily over 30 yrs old.

Not raised from seed though. I would have been an infant if I did.
