Someone help me understand

So when doing stones we all know you can harvest stones and then spawn as usual and grow mushies while in the meantime you produce more stones in the substrate.
What I'm trying to understand is why I can harvest the same amount if not more stones from my substrate in 2-3 weeks as I can in 4-5 months?
Basically why do they form and grow so fast once spawned to substrate?
If it has the do with water content then why wouldn't we go LI to sterilized substrate/grain mix and grow them out that way?

i don't think it has to do with water content, they form in the first place as a survival mech by nature to survive the dry times with things like grass fires and what not, isee what you're saying but leaving a jar for 4-5 months is convenience

I may do a bag of mixed grains and coir. I really don't see what else it could be that accelerates the growth so much aside from water. Even super hydrated grains really don't hold a huge amount of water.
Either do LI to a mixed bag of coir/grain or LI to a grain jar and once colonized dump that is n a large spawn bag of sterilized coir?

Well I do LI to grain bags for my stones already and it does well but I'm really stuck on figuring out the increase in growth speed as I stated in the OP.
Surely I'm not the first one to notice this or try to address is but I can't find anything relevant by searching.

it's a good question...maybe the fact that it gets more fresh air

try galandoi in rye grass seed brother.... you'll have alot of stones and pretty quickly, it's not about the moisture, my bags are to wet and the bottom of the bag hasnt fully colonized after 2 months on one but the other bag ended up drinking enough of the water to dry it to normal and then colonized the entire bag and is doing great, also use coffee instead of water like half and half and you'll be set man

Getting stones isn't the issue. Spawn your spawn next time and watch the speed of your "second" harvest.

Do stones formed in jars come out cleaner than stones in substrate? Does the substrate get stuck in them or do they just wash off

yes they will form around the substrate, if you were to use pf jars you will find verm inside them

When the stones form in soil, there is available air that flows through. I'd have to put money on air being a major factor in that problem you posed.

I wouldn't call it a problem persay but it seems as if there should be a way to exploit this behavior.
Am I the only one who has noticed this?
