I think main advantage would be surface area, can do a bigger grow!

I say put them in the ground. I throw used sub behind the shed and I find cubes popping up all over the lawn (northeast coast), so they seem to like it here Im going for my first outdoor bed this year!

i see no real diff although there may be some microbe differences, i'd imagine you may get more microbial life in the ground then a flower pot

I have mine in the shade, they only get a couple hours if that of direct sunlight.

Shaded areas are best for cubes outdoors.

Cubes are a tropical specie.  They have evolved to grow on the bottom of a rain forest floor.  Under tree canopies coupled with high humidity.  :thumbup:
