Mushrooms still wet after being in drying chamber overnight - safe?
    #21438535 - 03/21/15 06:46 AM (9 years, 1 month ago)

Hey. I used a fan to dry most of the moisture out of them before putting in the drying chamber (maybe I didn't wait long enough, argh!). I separated them out by size and put small ones in one chamber, medium in another and large in the last. I am thinking the silica gel was dud and I should have heated it before using to reset it, but when I checked on the shrooms this morning they were still wet, if anything a little more soggy and they smell stronger. It doesn't smell like most but the last thing I want to do is take something that can make me ill. Should I chuck them or return them to the fan drying system before trying to desiccate again?

You need a food dehydrator, I share one with a friend and it can dry 100 grams wet to 7 cracker dry g's in like half a day, and that's on the lowest heat setting.

I attempted using just a fan my 1st grow some time ago it took a day and night before they got even 1/2 way dry.

as the other guy said, get a dehydrator. U can get a cheap one for 25 dollars on amazon, or go big and get one of the best with an adjustable temp for 60-70.

http://www.amazon.com/Nesco-FD-37A-American-Dehydrator-400-watt/dp/B00CS5ZI6G/ref=sr_1_4?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1426948813&sr=1-4&keywords=dehydrator

I have the nesco  FD-80A Square-Shaped Dehydrator and it's fantastic. Cracker dry shrooms in 8-10 hours.

I fan dry mine for at least 3-5days 24/7 then dehydrate and jar with desiccant packs. They're all ways cracker dry.

That's ridiculous. 5 days.....fuck

Get a damn dehydrator and put it on the lowest setting

I can't imagine putting shrooms out in the air for 3-5 days

Works fine for me. I don't notice any difference within a few days drying time.

Okay thanks guys - so you think they're okay to continue drying? What are the signs of mold? I thought squishyness was a no go but they don't smell like I wouldn't eat them. They smell shroomy.

I'll invest in a dehydrator with low heat settings for next time

Any dehydrator will work dont worry about heat settings unless its like above 300 F haha

How long were they in the drying chamber? I say your fine to keep drying.

Really though I use to put my harvests on wimdow screen, and blow a fan over/through it. They would take close to a week to get dry enough to put in a desiccant chamber.

Only thing I like about it is they stayed pretty haha, the dehydrator kinda smooshes big caps

My neco goes up to 170, but i usually leave it at 95-110 because I'm paranoid about potency loss

I'm sure 170 wouldnt hurt them though

I personally would never go lower than 170F potency loss = not drying them fast enough

I always do 24 hours in cheapo presto dehydrator it has no settings and works perfectly.

Wake up, pull dry stuff from Dehydrator.  Harvest new, place in dehydrator until tomorrow.
