Are my veils breaking early? First fruits

Hey are these about the right size for their veils to be breaking? I picked the big one that I knew was ready, but the rest seemed a bit small for their gills to be showing... I am wondering if that is normal or if I need to manage them a bit better?
Anyway, like I said; some of these I can clearly see their gills... time to harvest?

The bruising on those fruits and early veil tearing speaks to me of too little moisture in the cake itself. Pick it up. Does it feel light?

Yeah it's not very heavy, that's for sure. I'm getting bluing all around my cakes and haven't seen a very good pin set so far, is that the reason? Weird, cuz I soaked these cakes for like 20 hours

Yeah, that's probably the reason. Set them in a saucer of water for a bit. Check out your perlite in your shotgun. Is it dry?

I just checked; the perlite, surprisingly, is comfortably moist. I'll put em in a bit of water like you said. Thanks bud!

I would harvest a few more hours and you'll have spores all over.
making a spore print is pretty cool too

you don't increase FAE in a SGFC it's always set to more than enough. you only mist the cakes when they need it. you can bottom water them if they get dried out too fast perhaps in the winter. you don't up the RH the RH should fluctuate but the SGFC keeps it much higher than ambient. The dunk and roll is for a reason, the reason being there's a 88% RH at the surface of the cake as you mist the damp verm evaporates eventually and the surface of your cake is always at pinning RH, but fruit bodies themselves don't want a constant 99% RH they want varying RH.

u can pick it now if u want but i like to wait till my caps are 80%~ flat and harvest. ive heard they are slightly more potent when you harvest RIGHT when the veil breaks but idk.. happy growing!
