Oyster mushrooms on Coir?

Hey guys, so I just started growing oyster mushrooms and was wondering about coir. I read that it works, but how good? What are the usual number of flushes oysters will produce on coir? And finally, would using coir as bulk substrate be usable on a small commercial scale? I'm no where near a commercial grower but I was just wondering. You can buy a 5 KG block for pretty cheap. Thanks for the help guys

Go for it. Oysters will grow off about anything and would love em some coir. But using lots of coir in commercial grows could be expensive over time unless your location has lots of excess coconut fiber around - like somewhere tropical might.
Could be interesting to mix it with another bulk sub to stretch your costs...

Do you know how many flushes someone would expect on coir? I read somewhere as long as you keep it hydrated it'll go for a while. I've had tons of success with coir and it's pretty cheap around here, 12 dollars for a 5KG block. probably less if I buy in bulk. Also I wouldn't have to do a proper pasteurizing of it all and could be easier.

If you can't find other information I would suggest that you just use the standard yield figures, somewhere around 20% depending on how many flushes etc.
Just to give you an idea you're coir is at $2.4 per kg. We use hardwood sawdust which we sometimes manage to source free, otherwise we pay around 0.13 euros/kg.
Do you know what the moisure content of your coir is? The drier it is the cheaper your mushrooms will be as you will be adding (free) water to bring it to FC. The sawdust we buy is around 38% which means that we are paying 0.08 euros/kg of FC sub, all of which makes $2.4/kg seem pretty dear. Are you especially attached to using coir or have you researched potential straw/sawdust/??? suppliers nearby and found out that its your only choice?
We started out using coffee grounds collected from local cafes weekly last year but found that, amongst other things, the cost of substrate was too high. Many miles and research hours later we are now using sterilised hardwood sawdust (waste product from local firewood producers) for all our work.
