Psilocybe cubensis "Ecuador" popcorn cased
    #2142670 - 11/28/03 06:46 PM (13 years, 16 days ago)

12-01-03

I want to thank MycoBag for the corn bag contest, and Baby Hitler, who gave me an EQ pixie pack. I gave them to my friend, Don Quixote, as an early holiday gift. This is what he's done with 'em.

Happy holidays

Update 12-02-03
Birthed yesterday

12-05-03

12-08-03
High res pic today... so you can count Don's Holiday pins.

12-09-03
Another hi res pic. Enjoy!

12-10-03 UPDATED This picture was missing for a few days... while the server was down.

A couple things happened recently, Don cleaned his pod. He didn't air out the bleach very well before he put the tray back in... Don's suffered several aborts becaise of this... oops! Oh well you learn...

And... Don already is printing the first shroom! It opened a day or two earlier than the others will. It was picked before this photo was taken.

12-11-03
Not bad for Don Quixote's first casing... now if he'd stop eating the corn...

12-12-03 No picture Today :frown:
A couple of days, a few more aborts... some of the first shrooms were harvested. What remains are very healthy looking... except for a couple aborts that are fused to good shrooms... Don'll wait as long as he can before harvesting them.

The first shrooms were not fully mature and their growth was stunted... probably because the myc network wasn't complete... Don thinks. The bleach didn't help either. Next time, Don'll use H2O2.

Finally... Don has a healthy looking case... it looks like most of these pins will all cap around the same time. and he has learned a lot from this experience.

12-13-03 Todays pic

I suppose Don shoulda' used two bags for this tin... the shrooms aren't reaching full height... well, it is corn... I keep hearing corn is much better for gtg or bulk than casing... Don wishes he'd spawned to poo/straw or compost. Corn has remarkable speed though... Don is definately a corn fan... but use a smaller tin if you plan on casing it... mycobag... rye and verm bags... seem to produce... full sized... "I can't believe it's not poo!" shrooms. Don makes his best prints from the verm and rye MycoBags... the corn does't seem to provide enough nutrients for full sized shrooms... but, again, the tin was too large.

Still corn has its uses... and casing the corn has been QUITE fruitful. I wish Don had a working scale... he will soon but, you'll only get dry weight...

I do like this casing. It is quite nice... there is stuff for Don to pick every day... it is fun to watch... definately try casing if you haven't.

There is nothing to fear from casing. It is a very simple process... and you discover how strong a myc network truely is. Once white... mycelia can fight contams... very well. Don knows.

He used a questionable casing mix... Jungle Mix brand pet bed :wtf:. Don did not PC the casing soil ... he just sprayed with h2o2 diluted with water to the the proper moisture levels (Something... he did using his Quixote Jedi sense) and cased with the corn :nonono:. He has hand fanned the casing :heartpump:... and left aborts an extra day or two... if attached to growing shrooms .

So far the casing holds strong... I'm not saying Don has been a slob with it... not at all... but since this stuff was free (Thanks Baby Hitler and MycoBag)... and the casing had its own pod :shake:... Don wanted to see how contam resistant this myc stuff truely was .

He doesn't always wash his hands ... he doesn't give it a perfect light cycle ... he doesn't keep it at optimum humidity ... he doesn't lysol the air :crazy2:... all he does is fan regurlary :spliff:... and tend for the thing when it looks like he should :bong:.

Perhaps Don is lucky...

Perhaps Don has a white thumb...

or... perhaps... just perhaps... myc... once growing... wants to live.

Patience n00b mycologists... patience is the best substrate... that, and your very own home :tongue2:.

Oh... btw... Don shared some of the fruits of his labor with me tonight....  :eyemouth:

Those fruits inspired me to write all of this...  :oogle:

Don wants to thank The Shroomery...  :nut:
Happy Holidays

Emoticons are fun.
:ooo:           :tongue2: :sun: :crazy2: :mushroom2:  :rasta: :stoned: :bong: :pill: :print: :spliff: :stash: :wtf: :noway:  :lipsrsealed:    :pill2: :smile2:

12-14-03 Three pics today... no need for extreme hi res... these things are large.

12-15-03
Very high res... you can see the gills if you zoom in.

After this shot, Don picked and printed seven caps... total so far from this casing... around 20...

You may wish Don left the shrooms on the casing... but he has something in mind soon.

Stay tuned.

Need a hint?

Here you go...

12-16-03
Only 3 shrooms to go in the first flush.

One more shot.

12-17-03
The casing's getting lonely.

Here's the lid... coming towards the (now bare) casing.

12-18-03 The lid is on. The end of this growlog is near.

Dry weight... just about 20g... let's pretend it was 17.9g dry.

After this flush, unfortunately the casing had to be thrown out. Don will be away for the holidays and he didn't want to put the tin in the fridge for two weeks... besides, this way, the holiday growlog is insured a happy ending.

Don gave many prints from this casing away in his holiday contest in the Marketplace Forum. Check it out... Don speaks! http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...rt=all&vc=1

Anyway, next year, Don will use two bags for his Holiday tin.

Thanks to everyone and Happy Holidays,
Cervantes

Don and I would like to end this grow log with some emoticons.

Ah yes... the moisture. It was just misted when the photo was taken. It looks normal again now that the top layer has absorbed the surface moisture.

More pics to come!

This post SHOULD be in the Marketplace forum... but I want people who read this thread to have the first chance at winning an official Don Quixote contest.

OK... here it is: ONE free, corn grown, EQ print to the first SIX (6)people to post a correct answer in Don's contest thread in the Marketplace forum http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...93&fpart=1.
____________________________________________________________________
I am thinking of SIX Disney ducks. Name ONE of them in Don's contest thread in the Marketplace forum.

If your duck has been named by someone before you, name another duck.
____________________________________________________________________

Let me make this clear (Don thinks people will STILL screw this up... Don can't wait...), if there is a SEVENTH Disney duck, and I wasn't thinking of it... your guess doesn't count... sorry. Once all SIX ducks I am thinking of are named, consider the contest over... unless I say so... :P I will close the contest as soon as I see all SIX correct answers.

PLEASE, DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWER IN THIS THREAD. If you do, you will be disqualified... even if you post correctly in the other thread.

ONE entry per person.

If spores are illegal where you live, or you are under EIGHTEEN, or you live with your parents, do NOT enter this contest.

If you name more than ONE duck, you are immediately disqualified. Better luck next time. If someone names more than ONE duck, people can keep guessing... they may even use your answers and get YOUR spores... follow the contest TEK to a "T" and you WILL get spores... :nut:

Look for more holiday contests/giveaways from Don Quixote (IN THE MARKETPLACE FORUM FROM NOW ON) in the coming days. You never know when he'll have me make another!

Once announced, winners can pm me with their mailing address.

Keep looking for more pics in this thread... you never know what you might see.

P.S. If you didn't win, or missed the contest, please don't P.M. me for prints... at least until these Don Quixote, Holiday Contests are over... thank you :smirk:.

Happy Hollidays
