Bag recomendations

I'm looking for the best bags or poly roll for spawning and fruiting king oysters. I've been reading into this but I'm still not clear on what the most commonly used bags are. Thanks

i use the unicorn 3T bags for fruiting sterilized sub (usa). they hold 1500g of sawdust substrate but probably will only hold max 500g of straw. I can fit 4 in my 22 qt pc at a time. they make bigger bags with different numbers but the T filters are good for fruiting. if you get bigger ones, you won't be able to fit as many in the pc. there's also another type of filter that will allow you to seal the bags before PC'ing but I forget. its 5 microns.

you can easily get away with just pasteurizing straw and spawning heavy, and then you can buy bulk 2 mil poly bags or a roll of tubing if you have an impulse sealer. non-autoclavable bags are much much cheaper (ie. $0.16 compared to $0.60)

+1

OP if your're going to be sterilizing in your PC I'd do a mix of supplimented sawdust and straw. You will be able to get more substrate weight in each bag. Otherwise you're gonna be running your cooker to sterilize much less substrate than you could be running in one run, not all that efficient.

Hardwood sawdust? I have many types of sawdust I can get off my land. What ratio of straw to sawdust? And what do you supplement with? Gypsum?

gypsum isn't a nutritive supplement. its a mineral. supplements are ingredients high in nitrogen or protein, such as coffee grounds, cottonseed hulls, spent beer grains, or, most commonly, bran. Supplementation rates depend on what you're growing, use the search function. Any non-aromatic hardwood, including but not limited to oak, poplar, elm, and alder. Aromatics are like cedar, pines, and i think mahogany and walnut are included in that category, too, because they contain natural anti-fungal compounds.
