Agar/Petri dishes...

Hey,
So i've read a bunch of Agar teks and the one that seemed ot be the simplest was http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/19208976#19208976
I have managed to get some disposable petri dishes and could also get some of those mini tubs listed in the tek....
What i wanted to ask though was:
I can prepare the agar just as the tek above listed...and then just whack it into the petri dish and PC it? then i can just use my spore syringe to inject some spores into the dish and i'm good to go?
After it colonizes and i can see its clean or not...how do i separate the best part of it?
From what i've read the coloization won't be totally clean and that i can separate some part of it and just use that to then create 100% myc and add it into a wbs jar to make my 'master jar'.
Am i insane?

the disposable dishes u got are not able to withstand the PC. they should have come in a plastic sleeve, that is SEALED.
u will need to cook the agar seperately in a bottle, and pour into those plates.

You can't use a no pour agar tek with plastic petris, the petris will melt into a blob if you PC them.
I like using small 1/4 or 1/2 pint mason jars for my no pour agar teks.
Don't get discouraged, agar isn't difficult and for the amount of energy you put into learning it you will receive 10000 fold back.

So...if i get some sort of glass drink bottle or container that can withstand the PC i can just use that to pour? ( I currently have a ghetto SAB (cardboard) which i will probably use.....if i can find something better and build it then i will but not sure if i can atm.

GE lid?
I am in China, no wally mart here.
I can find a cheap tote though i guess, the only issue is making holes in it and then sealing gloves and all that...

just use the same lid the jar came with no need for a gas exchange lid.
that's a special lab grade glass bottle made specifically for pouring agar media. you sterilize it with the lid a bit loose then after the PC cools tighten the lid down. let the agar cool down(to 47-50C) pour it into dishes it will solidify in a few minutes when it reaches 40C or so.
pour into dishes using some sort of protection from drafts so no contamination fall into your dish while you have it open contaminating it. most people use a plastic tote upside down with some arm holes.(a still air box) you could use a cardboard box and saran wrap or plexiglas etc...
easy as shit.

I've got the liter media bottle with the ptfe pour ring. No need to leave the cap loose. Just remember it tightens itself when cooling.
Bod, how long after pc cycle.do you pour?

it doesn't tighten itself you leave it loose while it sterilizes, when you can open your sterilizer or PC you tighten the lid down. I wait until the agar is 47-50C to pour it. however long that takes.

Thanos bud. And 20 min huh? I thought the core temp had to be at 15psi for 20, that's why I was doing 40.
Thanks again for clearing things up bod
