Black spot on cap
    #21413356 - 03/15/15 09:13 PM (9 years, 2 months ago)

Unfortunately due to a death in the family I had to leave my apartment for about 24 hours and head to a funeral, right as I was starting to get some fruits (previously it was all blobs). I came back and there was this black spot on one of the more mature fruit's cap. I'm guessing it's rotting from dehydration. Should I just remove it. Do I need to remove the ones around it too?

Probably a contamination.  Throw that shroom away and look for other contaminations on mycelium/shrooms.  It's never safe to use mushrooms from an infected cake, even if the contaminant isn't present on the shroom (toxin difusion).  If you find another contam. source on mycelium, throw the whole cake/substrate away.

The rest of the shrooms and the myc from that specific cake look fine. There were some gross looking aborts I immediately tossed but those were on two different cakes. I guess the concern is that it's on multiple cakes, there is plenty of growth that looks completely healthy.

If only the cake is contamed it's perfectly safe to dry and eat the fruits.

You can eat any fruits that aren't rotten or moldy. Treat it like a food, because it is.
