b+ and grains...
    #2141333 - 11/28/03 12:41 AM (13 years, 9 days ago)

alright...my friend never grew shrooms before and he just got his syringe from ralph (the man) he doesnt have vermiculite and brown rice flour yet, so he figured he would try to juss give grain a shot while he searches for his ingrediants, its only 1 jar so he has nothing to lose if he fails (since grains are supposed to be harderd to grow from)... what type of grain should he use for b+? and if you have any links explaining how to grow with grains please post em... thank you and suggestions are welcomed...

popcorn is the easiest one but logical it's nearly the same tec as rye,it's easiest because it's less sensitive so you can start with it to get the logic of grain cultivation. You need a PC btw if you wanna work with grains.

Start with popcorn...it is very cheap and forgiving..easier than rye, quicker than rye,(so says my neighborhood shroomin wombat)
Then after mastering popcorn, you can got on to the other grains.
Good luck, may your enterprise be very fruitfull...

Everything is easy if you know how to prepare so you may also soak millet for 17 hours , drain and then PC :good results.I said corn is easier but it involves boiling extra 30-40 min to increase water amount though it's easier it's more to do with it,forgiving, yes it's more forgiving....

Well. I've never tried BRF cakes but i still think grain casings produce better results. They colonize faster and produce large flushes. IMHO they are even better suited and easier for beginers than cakes (at least for me). I've never had any contam problems at all with grains. If you'd succeed with grains i don't think you'll ever wanna switch to BRF cakes.

In comparing popcorn and rye - yeah, popcorn is a little faster but it takes some more time to prepare.

Here are my Cambodians at day 7 after inoculation (g2g transfer, just one teaspoon added to 750 mL jars):

popcorn jars:

rye berries jars:

As you can see, there's not much difference. All jars (with popcorn and rye) were directly cased app. 30 hours later (some casings were even mixed - with popcorn jars & rye jars).

At my first try i followed this tek: http://www.mushmush.nl/methods.php (scroll to the "Cultivation of Psilocybe cubensis on sterilised rye grain" link). It is easy and simple.

Good luck.

Go with popcorn if you have a pressure cooker, it's easy to use and it's verry cheap for use with large jars.

IMHO you can't beat 6t's wbs tek:

http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/23619

A bag of pennington's wild bird seed is only 4 bucks and it will do about 12 jars. My friend has had GREAT results with this tek. It's so easy to do. There's no messing with water content to grain ratios and stuff like that. Just soak, rinse, drain, fill and pc.
