Wayne Static died of fatal mixture of alcohol and prescription drugs coroner's report confirms
He passed away suddenly at the age of 48 last November. And San Bernardino County Coroner's Office has now confirmed that Wayne Static - real name Wayne Richard Wells - overdosed on a mix of alcohol and prescription drugs - including Oxycodone tablets.
TMZ reports that toxicologists found that the Static-X frontman had Oxycodone (generic Percocet), Hydromorphone, and Alprazolam (generic Xanax) along with alcohol in his system.
Immediately following his death, Wayne's wife Tera Wray - who was in bed with him at the time of his passing - denied he was abusing any drugs but admitted he'd been drinking.
In a statement she said: 'Wayne was not taking drugs. If anything, he was a drinker, and did not OD,'
'We all know that both Wayne and I had abused narcotics with alcohol in the past, which I am sure took a toll on his body, heart and soul,' she added.
The coroner's report also said years of chronic drug and booze abuse played a factor in what they ruled as a 'natural death'. A rep for the singer announced his untimely passing on November 1, just months before he was set to go on tour again, co-headlining with Powerman 5000 and Drowning Pool.
Static, whose band broke up in 2013 for the final time, was a fixture in the metal scene.
Six hours prior to the official announcement of his death, his Twitter account posted the news.
The singer formed Static-X in 1994 and released his first album Wisconsin Death Trip in 1999, which quickly went platinum. The band went on to release five more records.
Before Wayne left the band for a solo career, the band released their final album Cult of Static in 2009.
In January a memorial rock concert was held in his honour at Whiskey-a-Go-Go in Los Angeles featuring performances from heavy metal legends like Dave Navarro, Alice Cooper among others.

This is really sad. Static X was the fist metal CD I got when I was probably 13. As soon as I heard he died in his sleep I knew it was from drugs though. Even when his wife denied it I knew it was drugs. I probably could have guessed it was benzos and alchohol and pain killers.
I went to a static x show a year or two ago. After a couple songs he took a break and someone came on stage and gave him some pills. He screamed into the mic LETS DO SOME PILLS!!! Then they played a couple more songs and took another break. Someone brought him some shots and he screamed LETS DO SOME SHOTS!!!!! That dude went way too hard. But he was a great vocalist. He always put on a good show. Now looking back, the music was pretty basic but I still like some songs from wisconsin death trip album. Most people now would probably say it was shit music but it held a special place for me because it was when I was first starting to get into music.
Benzos, alcohol, and opiates man.... That combo has taken a lot of people form this earth.
RIP Wayne. After watching some interviews it seems like he was a pretty chill dude.

Static X was a bad ass band. I learned of them in 99 when they first started out. They were opening for Slayer (RIP Jeff Hannenman). They tore it up so hard core. After the show they were out handing out a Wisconsin Death Trip sampler to everyone. I followed the band pretty closely up until about their 3rd studio album. RIP Wayne Static.
