lol i thought you may have a link. you can see how this wrapping could be useful if it is possible to extend fruiting to point of contam or old age in a hydro setup.
so many aspects to work on lol *nutrient* *truly inert sub* *membrane surface area* * contam barrier and sub protection* *ph management*

why not?It makes seance to me... microscopic scleritia for on agar so why wouldn't they form on myceilum suspended in water.

i agree bw after all sclerotia are a survival strategy too store energy incase they dont fruit or spores dont achieve their goal and to secure the next generation. it makes sense that they would try to store the nutrients in the LC as they are not able to fruit.
there just like potatoes lol

Yes, I don't know where the other poster got the impression it was dry. To me it was clearly a fresh 10g shroom.
I am just making sure nobody is misquoting RR, which often happens, along with Paul Stamets and John Tyndall.
Here is a thread with a guy fruiting on a LC, with comments from RR and agar http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/6324044/fpart/all/vc/1
Many years ago a guy called doc charlie was growing on floral foam, the green stuff you stick dried flowers into to make a flower display.

Those mycelium mats in LC are formed by not shacking and having enough GE and nutrients.

I already posted one quote
Quote:
RogerRabbit said: The contest was for someone to grow a ten gram fruit on an inert base using nothing but chemical nutrients, not solids such as brf cakes or grain LC which easily fruit in the jar if left long enough. RR
10g dry would suggest about 100g wet, which is massive. This guy was posting about a very large shroom he grew which was 92.8g

RRs rules in this contest might have been strict, but there is no way he was asking for 10g dry.
another under 100g

yeah i thought he wanted a massive mushroom grown underwater for a winner.I just remembered the task was impossible so i thought it was 10 grams dry. anyway thanks for the clarification. i totally thought the challenge was to grow it underwater.

Agar is inert to mushroom mycelium. If you had a way of transferring nutrients and waste products in and out of it it could last indefinitely assuming it's free of organisms with the enzymes that can break it down.

i wonder how ultrasonic misters and gause would play out. you could have an injection port... i think i'd put in a drain... that way you can load it with alcohol, mist the alcohol for 10 hours... drain the alcohol... fill with water mist for a few hours... drain the system.... and load with nutrients/primordia and let cycle.... my concern would be that the mister killed the myc

thanks for that yeah i thought about giving foam a try as its perfect frame/substrate to give the mycelium as its inert and its porosity and absorbent nature may help somewhat compared to rockwool.
and thanks kizzle i never knew agar was inert lol. only problem is agar is not permeable/ porous and only works well as a 2d surface, as a 3d shape only surface will colonise leading to reduced efficiency but i like your ideas and keep thinking... together the community should be able to crack this one!!

The myc may colonize the agar surface first but it will colonize through it as well.

You can kinda watch this happen if you add food coloring and leave em' go for a bit. Also noticed this when knocking up with wedges. The myc comes out from the edge/side instead of the top.

Agar is porous. The actual pore size is variable based on the concentration. Fungi colonize most quickly towards areas with the most oxygen which is generally near the surface.

i deeply wonder if this would ferment. yeasts produce alcohol, but i wonder if other fungi do as well. it would interesting to find out.

Some heterofermentative bacteria can create alcohol but that usually gets transformed Into acetic acid.as for fungi maybe but the only ethanol producing fungi I know personally of is the yeasts.

Also agar is only inert to some fungi. There's a few out there that have agarase enzymes. agarlytic would be the word to use to look that up. Pectase is in cubes and why we can't make pectin dishes our cubes would turn them to liquid

wow bohdi never knew cubes used pectinase.... i would assume it is used to break down cell walls in plants?
