No. It'll catapult Seattle to the top of the best cities of America'a list.
That's the problem with the conservatives. They don't think further than the tip of their nose. "It'll close up small businesses"... That's all they see...
What's gonna happen is that poverty will go down, therefore crime will also go down. Education will go up. Quality of life will go up. Sure prices will go up too, but if you want to live in a low crime, high educatied city, the cost of living will be higher. Small businesses will sore thanks to an entire new segment of the population that can suddeny afford to shop. It'll kill the weakest small business doomed to failed. The rest will gain.
People will more than likely be more upbeat about going to their deadend jobs, given that they won't worry about putting food on the table despite working 50 hours a week.
This will create new demand, people outside will see the green grass of Seattle and will want to move there. The suburbs will grow. Poor people will finally be able to see home ownership as a possibility. Sure they'll be far from downtown. But they will manage to find something.
More taxes will go to the city. Therefore new projets will be built. Extra public transport. etc etc
Getting rid of poverty benefits everyone.
But yes... I assume that the incompentent entrepreneur will struggle and fail. But they won't die. they'll be able to open up a new business if they truly are as entrepreneurial as they think they are.
Keep the minimum wage the way it is and Seattle will undergo no change...
Crime will go down? I would argue more crimes are committed by the politicians who write these laws than the people living withing their system.

How will education go up? Why go to school for a job that pays 15-20 an hour and involves busting your ass when you can get a laid back job doing little for 15 an hour. Not to mention businesses that have very little room for flexibility in their overhead budget are going to have to lay off employees to come out ahead.

This will just encourage business to cut hours and or let go of under performing staff. With lower wages more can be employed since not every human worker is worth 15 an hour.

People not working doesn't help. A high minimum wage is a emotional reaction that doesn't solve the underlying problems in the economy.

Because of new EPA regulations I have to buy crappy lightbulbs that die in a few months but claim to last for years. I'm not happy about this. Now I am constantly buying new lightbulbs that are nowhere near as good. Among other new expenses the EPA has caused me recently.

Im curious. If minimum wage goes up does welfare and public assistance go up in rates based on that figure? Im still in favor of the idea, since it really does favor the hard workers and the go getters. So I believe

No the lack of decent middle class jobs. Forcing shitty service jobs to raise there wages will push for greater automation and increase unemployment. What is needed is a return to american manufacturing jobs that pay a good living without it these band aid fixes will do nothing to fix the overall economy.

People will be able to afford college AND pay for it afterwords if they don't find the job they hope for immediately.
Do you seriously think that people will settle to a dead end jobs instead of pursuing the career that is now possible for them to follow?
There are plenty of examples to prove my point all over the world. Australia for one. Highest minimum salary on earth. Top 10 most educated. #1 by far on family net worth.
Let's revive this thread in 5 years. I can bet my left nut right now that I'm right.

Australia has a very small population and a very tight labor market, that's why the have a high minimum wage.
Do you think there's a shortage of educated citizens in the US?
