Mushroom Kit: the substrate dried out?
    #21399732 - 03/12/15 08:45 PM (9 years, 2 months ago)

Hello everybody! How are you?
I think the substrate of my growing kit dried out. It was cold (~15ºC) and I've used a heating cable. The humidity seemed fine, I've sprayed everyday, but now I've notice that there was some space between the substrate and the plastic box (the substrate contracted) and that the plastic bag was full of water (the water evaporated , and then slid off to outside the container). I have 3 mushroom out (maybe 10 cm each) but they seemed stop growing 5 days ago. There's a lot o small ones inside the substrate (I can see that because of the transparency of the box). What I can do?

1) put the water again i the substrate and wait?

2) Abort, put some water in and begin again?

Thank you!

Your substrate will shrink as mushrooms grow out. Pics do help.

Kits arent known to produce high yields either so those 3 you said grow might be the first flush and its getting ready for the second. The second flush usually starts growing a week after the first

It sounds like he's using a smart shop kit, which sometimes has good producing cultures. They would produce better if their fruiting chambers weren't just a bag of water though.

Fuck kits. Follow recent teks on here according to what you're trying to achieve and stick to it/them. Much cheaper with better outcome.

Hello, thank you for your time..
I've took some pics..

This is stoped for 5 days, and I have started 3 weeks ago. So what do you think? Can I remove this mushroom and start everthing again?

Do you think its better remove the plastic bag and put in a big plastic container?

Which part of the process did you start 3 weeks ago? I personally haven't used a kit but am an experienced grower and can say that moving the substrate into a smaller Sterilite for its size or even a SGFC would suffice.

Bags and grow kits work. But from what I've seen on these forums, not ideal. Keep in mind, the sub is now colonized so you don't want to mess with it too much and hurt it even more. It still looks like it's in the early stages of fruiting, I've had a random one pop up like that before the rest.

Be patient.
And give it more FAE if they continue to look tall and frail like that. Some say it could be genetics, which is true, but I think your methods have a  great influence on the size and number of pins.

Just my two cents. :mushroom2:
