the Noosphere
    #21397000 - 03/12/15 10:46 AM (9 years, 2 months ago)

The Noosphere is said to be "the sphere of thought encircling the earth that has emerged through evolution as a consequence of... growth in complexity/consciousness."

The words I use are these:  The Noosphere is the nonlocal envelope of human consciousness and activity.  All thought and culture exist and evolve through it -- the collective mind of Earth.

I ask you, what are your thoughts on and experiences with the Noosphere?  Is this a meaningful concept for you?  And for what reason?

Like the Tsal, the akashic record, the book of life, the non local singularity we seem to reach in certain mindstates  etc....the noosphere has many names. Yes, it is a meaningful concept to me. Anyone who has tripped before, has most likely become aware of the greater envelope of consciousness that surrounds and runs through us in all directions. It is enlightenment & a greater understanding of the purpose and condition of the nature of life and consciousness as a whole.

If a group of humans were to leave Earth and settle on another planet then would the noosphere follow them or would the new planet have a mind of its own that would be imposed on whatever lived there? A bit of both perhaps. Fish probably have their own underwater noosphere, but I guess all these environments of thought bleed into each other on a universal scale. I've always liked the idea of living inside a universal intelligent imagination that is common to all.

Yes, I think the Earth Noosphere, or if you want the human Noosphere, operates on nonlocal principles, i.e. it can be tapped into anywhere in the universe.  But I think it is most relevant, and most active, for us because our signals are best decoded by us.  That is, everything in our Noosphere pertains to our activity, so everything we're generating in thought and culture is most accessible to (read: most readily decoded by) us.  So if we went to a distant planet, I think we would still be operating in the same envelope with perhaps a new "flavor."  Thus the Noosphere has elements of both nonlocality and locality.

And yeah, where you describe a universal intelligent imagination, I use the term "universal wavefunction" as I have a physics bent.  Same idea.

I'm just not sure if human culture is an accurate reflection of the planet as a whole. I think it's possible that we have gone down a path that is at odds with natural law and have lost, temporarily at least, that connection with the greater whole... but maybe this split and eventual return is all part of the Earth's secret plan?

I can't say if it's right to equate human activity with the mind or will of the Earth.

You raise very good points.  I tend to think of the whole thing as one system.

One of my favorite authors on this stuff, Tom Campbell, calls it the Reality Wide Web (RWW). The idea is we get into a certain state of consciousness where we can "query" the Universe and bring back practical information for our current lives in this reality system.

In some poetry a few weeks or months ago I called the earth a galacto-sphere.. does that count? :p
It was just a stray expression that came to mind while I was writing. . but I like your idea and topic.

In regards to the Noosphere.. I do wonder slightly about the emphasis on humanity in the topic.  After reading Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors, by Carl Sagan I began to understand how alike we are with the rest of nature. . truly beautiful when you think of how interconnected we are; to other species.  The more I learn and understand, it becomes clear that to separate ourselves from the rest of nature is only an illusion.  Our consciousness is interwoven with the rest of the planet - and is not by any means the largest source of it..  in my own opinion.

Besides this slight caveat, I am very interested in the topic, and will be curious where this line of query leads in the future.

You make a very good point.  If one posits the Noosphere as a nonlocal phenomenon, then the essences of all life -- and even all matter -- of planet Earth would be represented.  Perhaps there has been an overemphasis on human culture in purely general terms.  Certainly the system of Earth represented in the Noopshere would include everything about it.  Good call.
