Universal Dowel Tek

Hello everyone,
I've made dowels in the past and i'm just looking for the best information to make sure I do it all right.
RR Wrote on a post i found : Dowel plug tek: Hydrate dowels overnight in water or boil for an hour, then sterilize. Mix your colonized grains with the hydrated and sterilized dowels. A ratio of 1:10 to 2:10 works well. When fully colonized, separate and drive into holes you've drilled in logs. Seal over each wound and the ends of the logs with paraffin. RR
My questions : • How long do you PC dowels in a jar (like let's say 100 dowels) • Do you add anything in the water ? (gypsum / ...)
I couldn't find a clear ONE TEK with all the infos I want and tips in here, it's probably here somewhere in 20 posts, I'll make a clear TEK with pics to thank you all for giving your dowels Tek tips

I asked the same question on a FB group and this is my first answer so far :
" I soak for 24-48 hrs in bleach and some lime (lime is optional) in cold water, in the beginning I didn't PC, and all went well, eventually I saw trich, now I PC as well. I sporulate/clone into agar go from agar to Karo LC, shoot up grain PF style jars, do a cake to grain transfer, then spawn into sawdust, I spawn into sawdust because the dust colonizes faster. Then you can add dowels, but I like to add the fully colonized dust with no grain to the bag containing the dowels 1:4. Once it's fully colonized I plug with dowels and saw dust. I PC my bags for 50 minutes at 15PSI."
Looks to me like there are a few extra steps that aren't necessary and might just delay things even if they appear to be smart ^^

this belongs in the edible/medicinal forum, not advanced mycology. but to answer your questions, I pc everything for 1.5 hrs at 15 psi except large, supplemented substrate bags, which get 2 hours. just plain plugs, don't supplement
rr's instructions are pretty much it

This technique can easily be applied to the cultivation of woodloving Psilocybe species, simply add the dowel spawn to wood chips rather than pounding the dowels into logs. But I do thing the cultivation forum is probably more appropriate.

never thought of putting psilys on dowels. do people do that?
and by the way, you should NEVER mix bleach and lime

I was wondering the other day what would happen if you inoculated some logs with dowels that had azur or ps. cyans. Some one do it and make a log!

I have bioluminescent dowels from ebay and I just dropped them into a BRF/verm jar (no dry verm layer) with 4 holes and tyvek. They glow really bright once your eyes adjust and the mycelium is eating its way down the 1qt. jar.
