Soaking for moisture content.

I was asking, which is better, soaking millet for several hours and then loading into jars, or soaking for ten minutes, loading the millet, then adding a set amount of water to each jar?

I've never heard any benefit to soaking for that long. I usually soak for about 10 minutes to get the Bird-Kote off, then I add a little less than 2/3 cups water (since some water is retained from the soaking). I have had a few jars stop growing because when I injected the spores it messed up the moisture level (too many spores), so you may want to err on the dry side. Just my 2 cents.

After night I do croud
And with night will go;
I turn my back to the east,
From whence comforts have increas'd;
For light doth seize my brain
With frantic pain.

I always thought that soaking millet was a must. So you can just add water like you were using a flour type substrate?

yeah, dude you got it! soak for perfect water content. About 24 hours, allowing the endospores to germinate. Make sure to drain for at least a half hour before loading the jars. They shouldn't drip a drop. pc at 15 psi for 90 min.

Thats exactly what the plan is! But is it really true that you can just add water instead of soaking?

Its a matter of opinion, I've did both, soak it or load it.....whatever works for you. There are recipies for water to millet ratio.
