Do I know from experience or just because I was told?
    #21380628 - 03/08/15 09:42 PM (9 years, 2 months ago)

Ive been thinking alot about some things that I take very seriously. Such as drugs and hpw they can help me get in touch with myself and all that. And like... Have any of you guys ever considered that all this talk about reaching a deeper part of ourselves is mostly fueled by what weve heard, rather than actually feeling like "wow theres something real with this stuff that I have to look into more"?
Like it might be so romanticized that we cant tell the difference between our experience and our expectation of the experience? Or at the same time, actually using the experience in a constructive/self improving way rather than an escape or something exciting to just have fun with

How do you confront this? What do you all do outside of making and doing drugs? Im taking care of my stepmom after my dad died a year ago in February, and it's making me feel like reality is fucking hard, like SUPPOSED to be fucking hard. And like the people who just have fun all the time really have no clue wtf is going on.

Its really making me cynical and antisocial.

In my experience, the expectation of how something will be absolutely can and does in a lot of cases, color my experience. But yeah, I try and live by the motto "do work son"

I stumbled upon ego death first hand by accident. It changed me permanently for the better. I used to get chronically depressed, and now I simply don't. Again, I'm just an anon telling you something that you have no direct experience of. How can you trust me? Don't take my word for it because in this respect, quite frankly, you just can't. But you can look into it if you are curious, and try to have this experience yourself. That's the only way to do it. You can't transform your life just by believing what people tell you about these experiences. It isn't real for you until you have it. I want to tell you not to give up hope though. This isn't magic but believe me if you experience ego death you will wonder if it is. I'm sorry about your dad. You are on the right track though. You need to rely on your own experiences, not second-hand experience.

I mean I honestly I have had some meaningful experiences on dmt and shrooms. Its just that I really have noone in person to talk about this stuff with candidly because of the stigma. People just clean up when I bring up this stuff that means alot to me and it makes me really self conscious

Then again I've always been really self conscious

My most spiritually significant experiences have all been spontaneous/unexpected, neither have I known it was possible to reach all those states prior to.. So I doubt it stems from expectation.

When I'm not doin em, I study or something. I guess. Something to work with my brains..

Don't feel self-conscious, but yeah people don't wanna talk about important things  Whatever that is, the politics, spirituality, spiritual drugs..

If you're being compassionate, you're NOT being "antisocial," which is a misused word. Antisocial is synonymous with sociopath and psychopath. No empathy, no sympathy, no compassion, no remorse, no conscience. Now, if you are still experiencing social withdrawal because of grief, that's normal. 18 months is the average. I lost both of my parents, in 1996 and 2004, and I was a crisis intervention specialist for 27 years. The thing you are describing, when taken spiritually, is the difference between belief and experience, between what the Gnostics identified as "Psychics' and 'Pneumatics,' - those who held faith in what they believed, and those who 'Knew' from immediate, (unmediated by ideas) experience.

Continue to practice compassion. To do so is wisdom. What, after all, is the alternative? I'm sorry for your loss, and I'm sorry for mine. Loss is inevitable. Acceptance of the transiency of life needs to be cultivated without the dulling effects of drugs, cannabis included. Psychedelics I see as "Moksha Medicine," which we do no more often than 4 times a year. Of course, I've ben using psychedelics for 44 years now, and I do not require them much any more. The rest of the time I maintain my health and the condition of our home environment, while practicing Realization, no matter what activities I am engaged in. It all contributes to helping people, including me, so that I can live and die with minimal suffering.

Yea man wow thats awesome. Thanks for that. Well im definitely feeling compassionate. But also alot of need for isolation. Which is hard to do because I feel like I have to do everything that needs to be done. My stepmom is pushing 70 and can barely walk. Its just taking a toll on my emotions.
