Making the leap, bringing a moron
    #2137331 - 11/26/03 12:24 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

Hello all. I have successfully made the PF Tek method work wonders for me several times, I am now interested in upping the scale and quality of my production, and as such have begun experimenting with more complicated methods.

This starts with a Homestead Kit (please don't waste your money.

and although those seems to be "fluffing" fine, I needed a second cycle to come in behind them. For this I ordered 20 pre-poured malt-agar petrie dishes, and asked my partner to get me a top quality spore PRINT when he went to Canada.

This person asked if a spore syringe would also work, and I told him NO, DO NOT GET A SYRINGE, I wanted a print as my Tek's all had the "scrape print onto dish" step.

The genius then procedes to buy me a syringe anyway.

Well, in order to keep my flow going, and not to waste any of the products we have purchased.......

....Is it possible (easy?) to use a spore syringe to innoculate Malt-Agar petrie dishes?

You won't get many germination points unless it's a really potent syringe. It would probably be better to inoculate jars with it and transfer that mycelium to plates.

You could try, though -- you will get some germination, but I've done it before and it didn't work very well. I'd also be worried about possibly isolating monokaryotes if it's a relatively dilute suspention.

See that's what I was afraid of. I moved back up here from Texas, and don't have the supplies I used to make my cakes all the previous times.

I figured if I had to start frest i would start fresh on Agar, and forget cakes all together, but it looks like that is not to be.

God dammit, and I don't have a print, and it takes FOREVER to get them delivered.

Sorry I had only ordered from PF and Hawk's Eye before. Both took 2 weeks or more.

Who is Ralph, and where can I find this wonderful person?

Which prints are reccomended from Ralph's site?

I am a semi-noob at the agar / casing Tek's and need a semi robust strain.

Also I have to get a money order, send that across the country, wait for this guy to cash it and mail me back my stuff.

On what planet does that take 4 days????

I am betting on 2 weeks. Bare minimum, unless this dude is psychic and sends me my spores before he actually receives the Money Order.

That's up to you. All cubensis strains are pretty easy to grow. I like puerto ricans, myself, but B+ is very good for a beginner, IMO.

Used B+ for my first cakes, and a custom strain for the rest, but I was hoping for something way exotic and potent, maybe those Puerto Ricans are the way to go.

also getting some of the indias from Hawk's Eye. Do they really grow like that? Does anyone know?
