Research Into the Benefits of Psychadelics
    #21367272 - 03/05/15 05:16 PM (9 years, 2 months ago)

I've been tripping for about 6 years now and I've seen firsthand the potential that these drugs can have.  One of my best friends, for much longer than 6 years, always shits on me for using psychadelics (even though I do so sparingly ~3-4 times a year) and refuses to try them. In recent years tons of great articles have come out that tout these benefits however I never really saved them as I usually just read them and move.  I've tried explaining to him numerous times that I'll never respect his opinion any drug unless he tries it, but I'm at the point now where I need to just show him.  So if anyone wants to share any studies or research papers from reputable sources for my list I would greatly appreciate it! (as well as discuss them of course)

Psilocybin is proven to slow down activity in the prefrontal cortex of the brain, which over activity is related to depression, anxiety, mood swings, bi polar, ptsd, ocd, and other debilitating disorders.

They help with cluster migraines and can help with some classic migraine and tension migraine headaches.  I know.  That is what brought me to mushrooms and that is why I started another grow.  It's time for medicine again.

So far this thread is no better than a google search of "studies on psychedelics". Integrate the facts into the message you want to present. All the information is already waiting for you on the next blank tab of your firefox browser.

How do you know I use firefox....?!

And I intended on actually sparking intellectual discussion on the articles, but I'm on shroomery for approximately 7 minutes a day which makes it rather difficult.

That being said what is your take on the recreational vs. medicinal use of psychadelics.  Do you believe it is possible for someone to take, just for example LSD, solely for recreation and reap no long lasting mental health benefits whether they are conscious of them or not?  Or do you feel that the benefit provided is more a function of purposeful introspection rather than the drugs ability to simply unlock neural pathways.

fuck that

just ninja dose him on a day when you know hes got nothing to do

i had a friend that loved shrooms but refused to do L, which makes no sense imo. so we went on a camping trip and i ninja dosed him, he was a little angry at first but the dude had a great time. a few of us dosed up that day so he just went with the flow and had a good night. and shrooms are more intense and introspective too so its nothing he couldnt handle. he just refused to do it cuz its synthetic and to me thats retarded so i made sure to show him the way

hes done L more than a few times since then too

One of the ways in which psychedelics don't benefit you:

spelling

why does everyone on this forum seem to think that just because it says Re:, you are replying to them?

surely everone knows about the quick reply box, and what happens when you use it...?

my theory: People WANT to believe that people are replying to them

if you didn't spell anything wrong you have nothing to be insecure about. there is, however, the glaring spelling error in the thread title

For lots of video material on the subject of current research & studies going on with psychedelics, check out the "MAPS psychedelic science" channel on youtube, as well as the MAPS website. (Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies)

Here's just a few of the links I have bookmarked about current research/benefits of psychedelics.

David Nichols, PhD: Educating people about the value of psychedelics is important

Rick Doblin, Ph.D. : Myths About Psychedelic Drugs

Psychedelics and Mental Health: A Population Study

The classical serotonergic psychedelics LSD, psilocybin, mescaline are not known to cause brain damage and are regarded as non-addictive. Clinical studies do not suggest that psychedelics cause long-term mental health problems. Psychedelics have been used in the Americas for thousands of years. Over 30 million people currently living in the US have used LSD, psilocybin, or mescaline.

Safety and Efficacy of Lysergic Acid Diethylamide-Assisted Psychotherapy for Anxiety Associated With Life-threatening Diseases

Magic mushrooms' effects illuminated in brain imaging studies

83% of the subjects receiving MDMA-assisted psychotherapy in a pilot study no longer met the criteria for PTSD, and every patient who received a placebo and then went on to receive MDMA-assisted psychotherapy experienced significant and lasting improvements.

long-term follow-up of patients who received MDMA-assisted psychotherapy revealed that overall benefits were maintained an average of 3.8 years later.

While no experience exists in a vacuum, and there will always be some kind of reaction or ripple that follows an experience, I think it's definitely possible to not change much after a trip.
