Travel in May - Where should I go?

Hey everyone, I'm 21 (will be 22 at time of travel) currently,
In May, I plan on taking a two week trip somewhere in the US. I'm starting to plan now, so I have an idea of what to do. I really don't want to spend a lot of money - so I'm investigating people online perhaps to ask if I can stay with them for a short while depending on where I go (I'm a very cautious person, so I definitely don't plan on staying with anyone unless I can converse with them first via IM, e-mail, friendster, the like.. I'm not asking for any help in this department though, so no worries!).
I was also trying to think of a cheap way to travel - I'd love to take a bus, or a train, because you know - no driving necessary (and I really don't want to drive. I plan on reading and writing a lot on this trip).
Now, does anyone have any suggestions on where to go? I'm looking for somewhere that's not going to be cold, so I don't have to worry about being warm. (I can't remember if May is warm or not).
Anyway, any help or suggestions on where I could go would be great. I love nature and everything, but some civilization would be great too - because you know, I'd like to check out some libraries.. maybe have access to the internet if I wanted it.. be able to check out local places and manage the confidence to talk to some new people. Stuff like that. So if any area incorporates a great deal of nature with a well-to-do enough amount of civilization, that would be wonderful.
I'm open to suggestions though - anyone? and if there are any threads like this, if someone could point me in that directions (or websites), that would be great as well.
Thanks for your time everyone, I've been checking this site randomly for a good 3 years or so now.. Everyone keep up this community, it's a wonderful, wonderful thing.
Fare well, everyone! I look forward to help! :] Thanks in advance.

Well, I was thinking about maybe posting it in 39 forums, perhaps sending a private message to all members that are currently registered.
I only posted it in this forum, and Spirituality/Philosophy. I apologize if it is a nuisance - I'm just looking for help. If you'd like me to delete it, I will gladly do so.. I meant no harm.

Somewhere in the US with nature, civilization, and things to do. Well, having grown up in Southern California - I'd invite you to come out here. However in May, I'll be on the central coast attending my classes - though we do have a beautiful rocky coastline and huge redwood forests. The town is fairly small (compared to Los Angeles), but the Bay Area is near by and that's an interesting place if you've never been.
Yea, I'd say come to California
