$43!!!!! Geeze. But yeah, other than the price that's exactly what I want. I don't really understand how the part that connects to the syringe works there though. How is that kept sterile?

That's hella expensive tho. Good if you have the money and can't be bothered to diy.
For that price I can make like 10 diy lids that probably work even better than that. Been using this design for years, even before I knew they actually sell those caps.

I use poly only to inoculate through it with a 21G needle to squirt out the biopsy.
But that thing should be covered somehow like in the pic:
For aspirating there's a pp5 bulkhead union installed, female luer lock to barb connection:
The stopper is pp5 too, male connection.
You could do this shit open air and have no contamination. Well actually I work open air with just a bunsen burner, hate SAB's.

hmmmm I don't really like the idea of having to keep in sterile flow throughout colonization, I thought maybe it had a seal that removed in a sterile manner when you wanted to aspirate. Otherwise you'd have to have your hood running for the duration of LC colonization, or try to swap caps to aspirate.. Right? there's got to be a way to cap it?

That's a pretty nice set up with that luer lock fitting on your lid. And I'd definitely DIY. I use Blue Helix style SHIP lids right now, so they look like this (not my pic):
But seeing Filthy's set up made me pretty jelly, it looks like it'd be a super clean way to go.
edit: thanks for the thoughts Josex, I think that's really exactly what I was looking for. something I can keep sterile and on the shelf during colonization. could probably do something similar with filthy's thing, anyway I think I've got it figured out now, SHIPs just have not really been my style.

I stopped using the filters. I just add a ship now. I have not seen any difference between using a ge filter and not using them.

You could always sterilize it with a syringe already attatched
On a setup like that the filter is to replace with filtered air wjen filling the syringe

BrownBear, I agree and thought about abandoning the filters for future stuff, but I think Ted's right. If you're going to aspirate, it's going to suck in air, and it ought to be filtered. If you're not aspirating though, should be fine.

I think I'm going to do something like Filthy's set up now that I've got the part names (syringe whip and some tubing basically), but I'm going to sterilize it with something like this on the end (thanks Josex):
On another note, I just bought myself an oster blender blade. Hoping to just simply mount it to my lid like this (pics are Eat's):
But use a drill bit and drill, not a blender, to blend it up, so I can use my wide mouths.. I wish they made wide mouth blades.

For me, everything is done in front of the hood so all the air is filtered anyway. I can understand for those working in a SAB though.

For me the filter is mostly to avoid the initial vacuum, I had one so bad it bent the lid before when I opened it.
Idk why but I really hate messing with stuck lids.

@Junk_food, I had a hard time to find those stoppers, if you have trouble too you could go to ghetto town and do this instead:
Push the barrel of a 10ml syringe all the way in, heat something sharp, cut it and then torch something like a flat screwdriver to melt the seems and seal it.
If you want to build something close to that LC extractor cap FK posted you'd need a barb to barb bulkhead union for the lid and some silicone hosing that connects the barb on the lid to a "barb to female luer lock" fitting, so you'd have to buy more elements and I personally don't like that the fitting is just dangling in open air. I prefer to have it all covered and inoculate through a simple poly filter that also doubles as an actual filter when you aspirate.

Got this Wear Ever PC at the Volunteers of America’s 50% off everything last Tuesday of the month sale. Paid $3. It has 10lb and 15lb weights. Will attempt a cycle tomorrow. Should accomodate 4 pint jars.
Also got a dehydrator for $2. (The element began warming when plugged in. That’s as far as I tested)
Had them round up .33c to $6. I need to look at second hand and thrift stores more often.

$6 well spent 👏 👏
These old cheapo 1990's dehydrators are actually pretty decent. I have a Mr. Coffee brand dehydrator that doesn't have a temp control, but I stuck a digital thermometer in it while it was running and it held temp at a steady 165°.
I've been meaning to snag a little PC like that for agar and stuff.

Man I am totally digging this. I've been thinking of printing some attachments and shit like this for lids. This really helps my visualizing kinda what I want to do.

Huh... I already enjoy the visuals when I puke in the toilet. It's like hurling into a kaleidoscope. This could be interesting.
