I have two trays that I spawned to bulk and need some advice. this is my first time doing this and need some experienced advice in this matter. I have two trays like I said and they are colonizing fast. a lot faster than I thought. my question is at what point should I switch them over to fruiting mode and how much air should I give them. also moister because what I have read you don't need to mist much because the substrate is all the Rh you need.
Also I fucked up and put a casing layer on before it colonized on one of them. I have seen people on two sides of this issue. some say before while its colonizing some say to wait until its done. its been 4 days since I have done these and im thinking of not using a terrarium. so when should I give it more air and light to start the fruiting stage? also I have been fanning the substrate out 2 times a day. they are wrapped in plastic wrap. Thanks guys also they are incubating at 78 degrees in my closet .

What substrate are you using? During colonization they don't need misting and fanning, that's only during fruiting... When you fruit them you MUST have some sort of GH, terrarium, or something to give them the proper conditions.

and saw a Cheshsire cat in a tree.
'Which road do I take?' she asked.
'Where do you want to go?' was his response
'I don't know', Alice answered.
'Then', said the cat, 'it doesn't matter.'"

thanks for the reply. I have a terrarium but I have seen grown where they just put them in trash bags and mist them and air them out. about how far out until I can fruit . also its cow shit and straw substrate ..that is all. I crumbled up some rye flour and vermiculite cakes

You don't mist/fan during colonization no matter what your method is. Stop misting and fanning until you put them into fruiting conditions... they need high Co2 to colonize. If the trashbag method is what you are aiming for then go for it, but nothing will provide better conditions than a classic SGFC or a Martha Greenhouse. As far as how long until you fruit, idk honestly. Once it's fully colonized.

I would say don't worry. As others already stated stop misting and fanning. If you used unpasteurized soil then continue to do so (but in fruiting conditions)
Just let them fully colonise and when they are give them FAE. If you use dung and straw you could have gotten off without the casing.
And please, if you did not yet, poke a milion holes with a needle in your foil. Keeping them airtight calls for contams. And I would put some kitchen towels on foil after the holes where made to prevent too much shit dropping in your sub.
And next time use more spawn, this looks like you are in for some long waiting on them to colonise.
Hope it helps. Peas!

im not misting at this point as stated in my post. yall misread my post. I was referring to when I move to the fruiting stage . thanks for the advice . I had already had holes in foil for FEA. also fanning will help the mycelium grow. I know it thrives on co2 but I don't want my moister getting to high. I did bring up the substrate to field capacity when preparing it. I was just curious on once it fully colonized if the thrash bag would work. Thanks for your guys replies

Don't. Fan. During. Colonization. You really lack a lot of knowledge for someone who is diving into bulk. I suggest more reading on this site and maybe some Paul Stamets books. Fanning during colonization is absurd, the mycelium need high Co2 during the colonization of the bulk substrate... have you even watched RR's mushroom videos? Maybe the trashbag will work but it will not provide optimal conditions, I can't give much advice on a method that I have not tried. There are other proven methods that are cost effective enough for my situation.

You're hurting your production by fanning during colonization. Why ask for advice if you're not going to listen?

Why are there oak leaves in it? And where is the casing layer?

OHHH, the casing layer is that last pic of dry vermiculite. OP, you really want that casing layer to be moist.

Lol dude. Mist that casing layer then wrap it up in foil, poke a few holes and let it colonize check every 3 days for %. Once its completely covered in mycelium go ahead and stick it in a trash bag or whatever fc you come up with. Mist and fan often. Goodluck!

If he did it was some oven pasteurization
But putting an unsterile casing on uncolonized bulk was the nail in this coffin

You don't want a fully colonized casing layer.

Trust me I know but in this situation he put the casing layer on way to early so it kind of defeats its purpose. If it were my tub I would let it fully colonize and fruit at that point. Cubes dont really need a casing layer anyway although it can be beneficial.

Casing cubes is completely unnecessary IME
