Lion's Mane in March? TX
    #21361412 - 03/04/15 02:02 PM (9 years, 2 months ago)

I found this guy growing at the base of an oak tree this morning. According to what I'm reading, both the time of year and height on the tree are unusual for Hericium, so I want a second opinion before I try it, but this definitely looks like Lion's Mane. It's been a very wet winter here, heavy precipitation for the past several days, including today. Was freezing last week, but it's warmer today.
Most Hericium species are considered choice, right?

Those images probably didn't turn out as good as I'd hoped..

Also found these little guys, thought they were kind of neat as well.
