Rye Berries v. Rye Grass Seed

Hey guys. i was curious, for sclerotia production, I've seen rye grass seed reccomended. Given that there are no farm stores around here, I am considering ordering off of the internet.
However, I see different listings for rye grass seed, and rye berries. Are they different things? When i search specifically for rye grass seed I can't find anything organic, and prices skyrocket up into the hundreds of dollars. Rye berries, I've found 25lb bags for 16$, which is much more feasible. Are they the same? Will they work the same? Any help would be appreciated since I couldn't find too too much when I was searching.

Neither would I!, the wheat didnt turn out great at all. Roger reports success with coffee soaked rye berries, but I have never seen a grow log using them. The RGS is working very well for me.

Checked home depot, agway, and 3 different grass/home/nursury stores, along with walmart today. Everyone seems to carry these grass seed assortment bags. I was considering giving that a try, but I may just wait. Can't seem to get the damn stuff anywhere.
I was eyeing up some of the sclerotia mycobags from mycofactory. I may just bite the bullet and get one along with a syringe of Mexicana A. Seems that the price for one bag might make it a bit more worthwhile than spending all of this time searching, especially with a 4 month colonization ahead of me

Rye grass seed is SEED for grass, you will find it in the garden center.
Rye grass seed on the left, rye grain (rye berries) on the right.

Yeah, I've been looking all about, can't seem to find it anywhere. Like I said, I'll try traveling a little out of town and see if any of the other garden places have it, but as of now I'm having no luck. As I said I may just check out a mycobag to dabble with the sclerotia.

^ That's the Yahoo! Yellow Pages. Do a search for feed center, lawn center, feed and tack, something like that, then just give them a call. I've used something called "four-play", a four-rye blend that works well, along with winter rye, and actually dry land grass mix, as well, and they all work about the same, for spawn.

Rye berries will work as well for sclerotia as grass seed, perhaps even better. I've had quart jars of rye berries produce half a quart of sclerotia. RR

I've had trouble with rye grass seed that doesn't mention any added chems anywhere on the package killing my spores. Same spores are growing well on other substrates. Seed was purchased at Lowe's. Persumably they have some sort of added fungicide but didn't feel a need to list it!

Sorry to bring back an old post but grass seed is a suitable grain for fruiting. Roger Rabbit said it was his second favorite grain to use. It's smaller and so it had more inoculation points power square inch than rye berries do. Also buy the seed at nursery's. I got five pounds for seven bucks and it's doing fine with PE6. Violet has done a lot of research on the subject. I know this is an old post but felt this should be said on here.

Who said it wasn't good recently?
I use rye berries because that is what I have on hand. Works for me
