Possible San Pedro at Home Depot

Hi all. I was at Home Depot tonight looking for hex nuts, and I decided to check out their plants section. I stumbled upon a decorative arrangement of about 7 or 8 cacti in a pot, a minigarden of sorts, and the columnar cacti in the pot looked a lot like San Pedros to me.
I plan on returning to take pictures from several angles (please, digicam, don't suck!), so that I can post them here and ask if they could be San Pedro.
Before I go, though, I would like to know what I should write down as "field notes", i.e. specific features that I should pay special attention to. When identifying a mushroom, one usually makes a note of the cap shape, cap wetness/dryness, gill closeness, and so on. What should I be noting about the possible San Pedros that will make it easier for you guys to make an accurate ID and to distinguish it from San Pedro look-alikes?
Thanks a lot.

Thats fucking Hilarious. Field notes in Home Depot. Dude, I have been told by others that San Pedro sells at Lowes as Torch Cactus. Has anyone else heard of this. Later.

While alot of people find pedro at home depot, they're usually not in variety arrangements. Never personally seen any in one in my years of cactophiling....

Yeah, I check out the HD selection every time. In the assortments here they all have for their columnar a Myritillo (sp?) . they do carry Pedros though cause I just got two a month ago. I also got a Grandiflorus at Lowes.

Ok well I went to Home Depot again tonight, this time armed with a camera. It was a bit uncomfortable because I went at a busy time and I got strange looks from customers and employees. Anyways, here are some pics of the cacti which I suspect may be San Pedro. What do you think? This first picture shows the side of 3 of them: The second picture is my attempt to show the areoles and rib structure. Even if it turns out not to be San Pedro, it's still a very nice picture, and I find the fuzzy nature of it to be psychedelic in and of itself, even when sober hehe.. Finally, this picture was taken to demonstrate the top of the cacti: The aeroles were small, white, round, and kinda fuzzy but still flat. Neuro, I noticed that the ribs were slightly concave between the aeroles, if that is what you meant by indents. I didn't notice any depression right above or below the aeroles which would make it look like the aeroles were covering a hole, but I could recheck if this is important. People were watching me, you see... As can be seen in the pictures, the number of ribs varied from 5 to 6, with most of them having 6 ribs, and I may have seen one with 7 that was not in the photographs, but don't quote me on that. The spines were brownish to black and very short (like 1 to 2 mm). I think that they formed something of a star pattern, pointing in all directions. I don't remember exactly though, and the pictures aren't clear enough to tell for sure. If this is important, I could return to Home Depot tomorrow and make a note of it. Finally, I did notice some thin filmy powder on some of the cacti, but admittedly this could have been dust from the Home Depot environment. It was a whitish powder. The one with the largest amount of thin filmy powder looked bluish-green, and when I rubbed off the powder, it looked darkish green underneath like the other ones. Let me know what you think. Could it be a look-alike? ARE there look-alikes for San Pedro? If you need more info, let me know. Thanks guys.

Not Pedros, those are blue myrtle cacti, not psychedelic.

Doh, after looking online at pics of blue myrtle, I think you're right. It does look pretty similar to San Pedro though, and I'm having a hard time clearly distinguishing the two. What are the main differences, and how can you distinguish them?
Thanks.

In the top photo the one on the left is mrytillo the other two are pedros. Myrtillos are blue and pedros are dark green. Otherwise they look similar.

no, no they aren't. they are all myrtles. the coloration can be quite variable, but none of them are T. pachanoi.

Hi concretefeet. Is there anything that makes you certain that they are myrtles and not pedros? Am I correct to think that Pedros have a waxy skin and myrtles have a more felt-like feel? Would Pedros be more shiny? What else would clearly distinguish myrtles from pedros?
Thanks a lot.

well; i am not certain they are myrtles, as i am not particularly familiar with them, though they do bear overall resemblance to those i have seen but i am certain they are not T. pachanoi, and reasonable sure they are not any Trichocereus species with wich i am familiar. some of the key features i have outlined here in this post.

They are all blue myrtles, myrtillocactus geometrizans.
T. pachanoi spines emerge at roughly a 45 degree angle.

I'd agree that they're all M. geometrizans. The way the ribs are shaped, the areoles, and black spines makes me think blue myrtle. Also any cactus is much easier to identify once its mature.
