sterile procedure needed during bulk prep???
    #21354070 - 03/02/15 09:44 PM (9 years, 10 months ago)

So I bought a large block of coir and unfortunately had to cut it into pieces to get it down to 650 g for coir teks. During this process I had some pieces fall outside the newspaper i dropped down and stupidly  threw them back in. Should I scrap the whole thing n cut a new section with more newspaper down or is it going to be safe once its been pasteurized. due to apparant hit n miss with damiens coir tek i was gonna follow franks proper jar pasteurization and grab a thermometer tomorrow (I dont understand why some people want to get the temp of the water i thought the substrate temp was what we were looking for?)

I have enough that  could cut more and being more sterile I figuered it was like pre pc as in you didnt worry to much sbout dust n sterility. i had second thoughts as soon as i finished i figured id double check. should i be following more sterile procedure for makīng my substrate?

also in these teks people say leave the bottom bit of ypur substrate to case with after fruiting, do you need to do anything to it for storage (ie fridge?)or just lid it and store for 10 days till use?

The coir will be fine once pasteurized

Yeah, they mined that coir out of a fucking dump.

Not joking.  They literally mined it out of a literal dump.

In the places nearest to coconut processing factories, they're the same thing.

your water will come to temp way before the substrate your pasteurizing will. monitor the water until it is at the desired temp, and then reduce heat. after a couple times you will know where to set your stove for the correct temp. once the water is up to temp and stable, then put your thermometer thru the foil and into your substrate. then monitor the substrate until it reaches desired temp. once the substrate is at desired temp, start your timer. its much easier with 2 thermometers.

i havent had any problems with damion5050 bucket tek. just make sure you shake the shit out of your bucket or stir a half hour after pouring your water in to make sure everything is saturated. i dont vent my buckets.

I prefer to use a water bath that's higher than my target temp.  It lets me get up to temperature much faster.
