Yup I have the answers to all those questions. Ganoderma lucidum is a species restricted to Europe growing on hardwood, it has whitish flesh and rough spores. Almost always with a stipe.

There are several species in North America that may be confused with G.lucidum. I will discuss the two most common. One is an Eastern mushroom with a range extending to nearly every state east of the Rocky mountains, it is a relative of the European Ganoderma resinaceum.Ganoderma sessile. It usually grows sessile, without a stipe and has smooth type spores. It has a brownish flesh and bleeds a yellow resin when damaged. G.polychromum is a close relative in California.

The second is common in the Southeast though its range extends considerably Northward and has been found in New York and Michigan, this is Ganoderma curtisii, it is more similar to G.lucidum but also has a more brown flesh and has dark lines running through the flesh, something G.lucidum lacks. It almost always has a stipe. It also has rough type spores. G.meredithae is very similar if not exactly the same as G.curtisii, only it will be found on pine.

All of this is backed up by DNA sequencing. As it turns out G.lucidum is actually closer related to G.tsugae, oregonense, and several other species living exclusively on conifer. Which invalidates the division of Ganoderma into a G.lucidum group for hardwoods and a G.tsugae group for conifer, because this division is simply useless.

Hope this helps  I should be getting a large number of DNA sequences from mushrooms I and a fellow mycologist collected to help clarify this further. Here is a phylogenetic tree I built using sequences taken from genbank G.lucidum is at the bottom.

Here are some photos to clarify what I mean by smooth and rough.

Ganoderma sessile spores. Smooth type. These are typical of the G.resinaceum clade.

G.meredithae, though not a direct relative of G.lucidum, this photo showcases the rough spore type very well. Note how they appear speckled.

Went for a nice bike ride to the woods/pastures today.

Conocybe sp. (?)

No clue what this emerging fungal mass could be, it looked like a gross eyeball popping out of a sac.

Panaeolus papilionaceus

Agaricus sp.
(?)

(?)

Poronia pileiformis

Tiny LBMs on a leaf

Russula sp.(?)

Mutant of some sort

Boletus sp.(?)

(?)

(?)

Amanita muscaria(???)

\
I was pretty excited to find those, if they're really A. muscaria I'll be going back for some.
I'll post a separate I.D. thread for them.

This sad photograph was "Probably the only psilocybin I'll see today".

However, I walked in a different direction than usual and TADA!

Copelandia cyanescens

Lastly, here's an armadillo that didn't want to be photographed.

Pretty good day, I saw a young White-tailed deer on my way to the gate of the preserve. I live in 239 area so that's a first for me.

Happy hunting everyone!

I can't wait to get back out there.
Starting cultivation is keeping me busy though!

Its been so cold around here I doubt we will be seeing anything for another couple weeks. Im dying to go out and do some hunting. Its actually alot of the reason I moved here. I think I got a good field picked out pretty close to me, I haven't actually looked at it but it looks good on Google earth. If anyone still wants to team up for some daytona area hunting send me a pm.

I went out last night and found about 35g wet of Pan Cyans. No camera though. It was so foggy out there, a little creepy. I know there's gonna be some more tonight because it was still pretty wet out there. and i didn't get to check the whole field because the cows were guarding it haha. Will the cows do anything if I get too close?

IME, cows are usually skittish and run away if you approach them.
However, if you face the herd in front of a bull, it might intimidate you.

Just don't get too close to the lead steer.
I've walked straight through the middle of a herd of grazing cattle during the day.
They usually either don't care, or run off.

I got closer this time and they started breathing really loud... or at least one of them did. I couldn't tell if it was bull because it was too dark. but I did manage to find 40g of pan cyans and 30g of cubes!

Nice little score, cubensi
when I lived in TX, me and a couple buddies used to be in cow fields a lot and like everyone is saying here, if you leave em be, for the most part, they'll leave you be.... I once had a curious ?heffer? (A female) cfollow me around for almost 30mins... but she never got closer than 10-15'

My craziest cow encounter was with a really old female who walked right up to me and let me pet her head.
An even older bull was just staring straight at me.
I remember asking her "Have you seen any shrooms?" and there was a cubensis growing a couple of feet away. Hahaha

Edit:
Here are some photos from 2-27

Ganoderma sp. (Possibly curtisii)

Panaeolus papilionaceus

Copelandia cyanescens

Rock the Caps bar,FLA style...

Hey friends, went hunting an brought back cow patties!
Had 1 shroom pop up but not an active, thought it may
have been a copelandia with no luck..

Collected 50lbs poo that afternoon, will hunt again
when it starts to rain here.

Never seen anything pop up in that field close to home?
so that 1 mushroom was a surprise anyhow!!!
Gives me hope in finding copelandia 1 day;)
peace

You're on the right track, wherever I've found P. antillarum, I've usually found Copelandia growing nearby.

You'll know them when you see them,
They're... magical! :mushroom2:

Make sure you look up Panaeolus papilionaceus to note those differences as well, they look pretty similar at first glance.
P. papilionaceus has a redish-brown stipe, and usually has veil remnants on the cap margin.

Good luck!
