Keep or Toss?

It's been a week since I've inoculated my jars and I'm not sure if there going good or bad. This is my first time ever growing. I could not find Vermiculite anywhere in my area so I decided to go with the popcorn tek. I followed a no pressure cooker recipe and everything went great for the first 4 days. I noticed mycelium growing on the glass within the first 2 days in almost all of my jars. After 5 days I noticed my popcorn was looking dehydrated and my mycelium stopped growing. I thought this was because I only had tinfoil over the top and it evaporated. So I boiled a little water and added a splash to each jar, then sealed the jars with proper clamp lids ( no air exchange). It's been 2 days since I've done that and I notice the mycelium growing again, rapidly, but only on the glass where the water is touching the popcorn.

I doubt that's mycelium growing. You pretty much condemned those to jar to bacteria when you didn't use a pressure cooker, and again when you decided not to use a filter, and yet again when you opened them up and added water, and again when you sealed them with no gas exchange.

Thank you for your input. After reading everyone's responses, I've decided s to start over with new popcorn and try straight popcorn, as well as straight brown rice in separate jars. I've read plenty of articles that include popcorn and brown rice individually, and I believe, there's nothing I can do but start over. I will be keeping the best jar(1), for experimental purposes. Thank you for everyone's input. I will be posting my sterilized canned corn next. .. Let's see what happens

Hey, just an idea...
I have recently switched to using whole oats for all of my grain needs.
It is very easy to prep & works extremely well.
I have never personally used popcorn, but it seems it would be more expensive and maybe harder for mycelium to colonize than oats?
You may want to try the whole oats some time.
They are cheap ($15/50lb) and can be purchased at most all "farm store" chains in the feed section.
