A little confused

My friend found a specimen of gymnopilus unknown that had mycelium growing all over it and the tree. So he cut out the slice of tree along with the mushroom put it in a plastic bag. He sterilized some vermiculite with brf, crushed up the mushroom and tree into small pieces inside the bag, then mixed it with the brf and Verm. He poured it into a glade plastic container and it now is growing blotches of mycelium. He is confused on the next step he should take to get fruits. He has the container closed up in a dark place. Any ideas?

Some of the smartest people we have on the shroomery are right here in the Mushroom Hunting and Identification forum. next time what you do is take pictures of the live mushroom, and the area it was in. then fill out this formVVVV Habitat: Where does it grow? Eg. woods, pasture, state, province, country, altitude, etc. What does it grow on? Eg. soil, dung, wood (dead, living, what kind of wood?), etc. Gills: Color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc. Stem: Length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc. Cap: Diameter, color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc. Spore print color: Very important! Bruising: Color that the mushroom bruises, if any. Other information: Scent of the mushroom, anything else you think is important, large close-up pictures showing stem, cap and gills.
If you do that, then there is a pretty damn good chance they will tell you what you have found

They identified it as luteoviridis or a inactive species I believe it was awhile back. I can double check it post if needed

First, let me say that you have a 99% chance of failing to fruit anything. The container doesn't breathe, right? Because you said its sealed. It will likely stall whatever healthy myc that MIGHT be in there and something else will take over (mold or bacteria). Not like that myc had a chance to begin with.
I would say your next step should be towards the trash can. (i don't mean to sound like a dick, just not sugar coating this one)

I was afraid of that. But I'll tell him to take the lid off see what happens.

NO! Well not like it matters. But there should have been some kind of filter in place... To prevent a foreign invasion.
If it gets opened and subjected to open air, it WILL be invaded since you say it is sterile brf and verm inside.

So should there be holes drilled with fabric or moved to a terrarium?

no, it doesn't matter.you put a slice of tree along with the mushroom in sealed and sterile media, there is no hope.If you found one luteoviridis you can find another and print it or take clones.

Botched from the start im afraid. Do what you want with it, I havent a clue what you can do to continue this one. Trash can it. Or wait it out and see if anyone in here can give you better advice.
