Its all good.  I ain't gonna advocate one over the other, they both have upsides as well as drawbacks. I have used both and will ccontinue to use both. As long as someone is using agar to ensure their cultures are clean I could care less if you use no pour or pour. I think the no pour is the foot in the agar door for most people and even if thats all it ever is my work is done :awesomenod:

+1

I recently poured some agar into petri's and I am really loooving it so far.
Although I started out with PP5 containers with these pasty plates

Still a great way to get things done, especially if you are just getting started
Perhaps if I am able to find better PP5 containers I will make use of pasty plates more, mine aren't very transparent and are rather large.

I wanna say I appreciate the pasty plates too. Im no longer nervous about agar.

While doing a "tiger drop". I noticed when you just drop one into a jar then shake. The grain actually agitates the agar pulling mycelium off the agar. Helping to spread throughout the jar. Had a p.mexicaA finish in 10 days like this. Did two shakes on it tho. On the fourth day I noticed the mycelium was all over the jar so I gave it one more shake and boom. From 7- 10 it covered the whole jar.

Thanks again!!!

Even revived 2 of my favorite strains from prints I took a year ago:sunny:

Im trying to get the hang of this, but I keep coming up with this. It just doesn't look the same from the pictures ive seen from the amount of lurking I do on here. Every picture I have seen has a very smooth surface.

This is pre-PC'ed, though. And given plenty of time to congeal. Does the surface look differently once PC'ed? I haven't PC'ed because I don't wanna waste the time if I cant even mix it correctly.

I used Pasty's recipe, as well as Munch's. I cant get the potato all the way dissolved, so there is still a good amount in there when I pour. Not sure if that's how it is supposed to be or nah?

In Munch's video, his seems a bit more viscous than what I have going on, almost as if he dissolved just the agar, and didn't worry so much about the potatoes . Maybe that's the issue?

watch the video closely. I def added the potato flakes. I let the batch heat up to where it just starts to boil. In the video I zoom in on the liquid when it starts to boil then I kill the power on my stove and pour it in to the measuring cup, which I then pour into the cups.

also been using half the amount of honey lately

That looks like a pretty nutritious substrate which would explain your bumps. It's just potato flakes.

Once you PC it it'll be fine. If you're using Telephone Brand agar like Pasty then heat it up until it mostly dissolves like Munch said and then PC it.

Extreme heat will dissolve the potato flakes and create a smooth surface.

Excited to move forward...grow my skills in this hobby and move to Agar. Things are looking great! Read Tek and watched video several times. . Stayed up way too late, must have dozed off while using PC, Kitchen smelled a little like burned paper towels. . I think I got it. Going to start a new batch tonight. One question, mix is heated just to boiling then shut down in video. is that necessary? Thanks. Friends, please never use your PC when exhausted. Could have been much worse, I learned a lesson. Thanks for all the help under the microscope.

its not entirely necessary, but I do it to achieve a nice ubiquitous mixture and consistency plate to plate

Happy with the Agar, thank you taGyo but they are all fried. I probably put a little too much Karo in the mix anyway, just read it makes for lazy Myc. Oh-well...going to dish out another three bucks for containers. Glad house didnt catch fire or worse. Looking forward to another go at it. Thanks for all the help. I forgot to have my friend look over the PC last night.

:lmafo:,

Yeah, use Pasty's formula exactly. Do one drop of karo/honey and 2 teaspoons of potato flakes along with 2.5 grams of agar and 125 ml of water. You will see great success,

2 teaspoons? I've measured the weight of my potato flakes and 1/2 -> 3/4 of a teaspoon = 2g potato flakes in my situation. that's what I use
and still feel I could go lower

Pasty's recipe calls for 2 table spoons, I don't use that much but for the sake of arguing lets leave the tek as is for someone just trying to get his feet wet.

Obviously configurations vary, I don't even use as much honey/karo as I should and add extra agar because I like it stiff (That's what she said). We as experienced growers can skin the cat a million ways,

But let him get germination and agar going first before deviating.

Got it, but did something different. I needed to double that recipe so I weighed out 5 grams Agar, put the potato flakes in the coffee grinder and added to scale to make 12 grams powder.a cup of drinking water was in the pot on low, added powder and food coloring with just a half tsp Karo. just brought the temp up to med high. I found the large round in my house, looks like its going to hold up in the PC. So....is it 45 minutes@15psi? I am awake, so no chance of any PC disasters again. Thanks to all you helpful Shroomerites for the help. Enjoy Sunday fun day.
