Update: First pins!! In vitro hyphal knots / primordia

My Pf jars have been fully colonized for about two days now.

Some of these jars smell weird also, not very mushroomy. Would metabolites cause a funky smell? I'm seeing a lot of this:

If I start to see in vitro growth, should I still let them sit for full consolidation? Or should I birth and move to a FC?
Update: First pins ever! I'm so excited. Should I wait a couple days or just birth them now?

These guys haven't pinned yet, but they got bigger:

Ohh yeah, I am pretty excited! They've grown into pins overnight! I'll post pics once they're uploaded.
Are you sure it's safe to birth them? I figured the consolidation time was necessary to keep the cake intact. I'm just afraid I'll slam the jar down and everything will just crumble in front of me. Haha
Also, some primordia have formed on the dry verm layer, should I still scrape off this layer as RR suggested in "Let's grow mushrooms"?
I don't want to potentially hurt the pins! I hope the birthing process doesn't disturb them too much.

If the jars are fully colonized its safe to pop them out, I think the pins are growing through the verm and not from it. Run them under tap water all the uncolonized verm will wash away and that which is colonized will stay in tacked

Looks good. Are your jars 100% colonized?
