The oats steam dry very nicely. By the way I weigh out 175 dry grams of oats per quart and when hydrated level out to 2.25 cups

Great method Mike,
I'll give it a shot. What brand oats do you have SBJ? 20 minutes? Jesus.

Weird,
We use the same brand, always takes me a good 30 minutes for them to plump up.

well, it's my first run, so it may just be something I'm not used to yet. There in the PC now. The surface never really dried like rye or wheat either. But, I do like the texture.

Surface is fine,
Muda found that with oats their so thick and suck up so much moisture that a little extra water is nothing. After he told me that all of my grains are kind of wet before I PC them. I give them a shake outside the PC, twelve hours later and then before inoculation if I see visible moisture but since I use LI the moisture doesn't really bother me.
Glad to see you gettin' back on the horse there SBJ,

I am into the size of grain (whole oats) and the potential moisture retention and release that I project whole oats will have to offer. A key factor come fruiting time.

When I started with oats there was zero info on them. After some discussion with van we decided the best bet was to just boil the fuck outta them to start with and work back from there. Boiling the fuck outta em (this is technical jargon, sorry) worked so well that we just stuck with it.
Step 1. Put in pot. Step 2. Add water. Step 3. Boil the fuck outta em. Step 4. Strain.
Jar them up and serve in a PC at 15 PSI for 90 min
