Hepa > Blower~Specific matching~24x24x12 & 6ft airstream
    #21338253 - 02/27/15 12:46 PM (9 years, 10 months ago)

Ive looked at other posts and I want to be certain my decision is correct. From what Im gathering, I need a 350cfm~600cfm squirrel cage fan.

Q1: What cfm do I need?
Q2: Is there a such thing as too much cfm?
Q3: Would you mind linking to a prefilter that would be good?
Q4: What is W.G.?

Outside Links:
How do I match a blower to a HEPA filter

The Control:

Astrocell I
Hepa Filter measures 24"x24"x11.5"
Penetration (.016) % Pen. @ 20% (.023) %
Resistance (.9) W.G.
Test Flow 1000 CFM

Workspace dimensions: 2'x 6~8'
Flush against wall on one 2' side.
Flowhood may be on either side of table.

Variables:

~If the flowhood is flush with the wall, I lose 2 feet of workspace.
~If the flowhood is on the otherside, I may get air bouncing off back wall.

Conclusion:

After reading others' trial and error, I have concluded that a 365 cfm squirrel cage blower for around $30 that will limit the workspace to directly in front of the flowhood. After reading the link specified above, I have concluded that Im not as good at math as I first thought I was.

Quote:

1. Find out the area of your filter by multiplying the width and the hight in feet (for instance the smallest reasonably usable filter would be 2ft x 1ft)

    2ft x 2ft = 4 ft2

Quote:

2. Multiply the required air speed(the one Stamets specifies) with the area of your filter

    100 ft/min x 4 ft2 = 400 ft3/min

That is as far as I could make it. I dont speak english!

Thank you all for your assistance!

You need a blower that will push 400cfm @ .9" of WG, if you don't use a pre-filter.

Most pre-filters have .2" of SP so it would be safe to get a blower that moves 400CFM @ 1.2" WG when adding one.

W.G. = water gauge (same as SP or static pressure), it is basically a measurement for resistance.

Blowers are rated for output at different levels of WG, so it is important to find a blower that moves
the amount of air you need at the sum of your HEPA filter & pre-filter's static pressure (W.G.)

If you overshoot the CFM a bit you can regulate it by either choking the fan (blocking some of the intake)
or by adding a speed controller.
