straw pellets instead of "whole" straw?

Hey my friends. Just wondering that I see no one using straw pellets? Why is this? Just too expensive? And is it possible to use straw pellets instead of whole straw for straw logs? Or would the substrate be to tight then? I ask because I have the possibility to order 450 kg of straw pellets for just 184€ (0.41€ per 1 kg of pellets) seem rather cheap IMO. What do you think?

They can be hard to source. I'd love to get a hold of some though.

I thought posting here about my thread would be to self-promoting lol.
Anyway, straw pellets expended more than sawdust pellets (I'd say 150% volume of sawdust pellets but I didnt measure very careful) and they work so far but its my first time trying them and I can't tell you much more. But I like em so far.
I got around 50lbs for around 23$. The pellets are made for hamsters. https://www.google.com/search?q=nagereinstreu

Thanks mates Do you prepare the straw pellets exactly like you would straw? Or better: do lime and soap cold pasteurization work on them also with no issues?

I use them a lot. Very convenient but they pack really tight so I use them in combination with microperf bags.

A 60cm /22cm dia log will weigh around 11kg!
I used to use straw briquettes that were better but they stopped making them.
I add 2.5l of water to every 1kg of straw pellets to get 65%

Ah okay. Field capacity is something I can work with Thought about buying these bags http://www.indugastra.de/HDPE-Muelleimerbeutel-30-Liter for my logs/blocks. These are 2000x 30l HDPE bags for just 16€ (+5€ shopping) but they have also 70l and higher. But 30 should be more than enough for me. I would poke the holes in it by myself, then they should work without problems too, shouldn't they?

i used them aswell, but added some hydrated lime to the water to help prevent contams. Solarity, do you press the bags or keep then as airyfluffy as possible? i always tried to prevent it becoming too compact because i worried about it becoming anaërobic.

Just switched to them from the other type. At the moment they are very compact as they come out of the bagging machine. No anerobic issues yet but I have not tried with just punched bags.
