5 to 10 minutes in the sun as a pinning trigger
    #21337878 - 02/27/15 11:09 AM (9 years, 10 months ago)

I've read on a previous post that someone had very good success by putting their FC in the sun for 5-10 min daily and removing it before it gets too hot.
There's very limited information that I've been able to find on this other than 1 person trying it and saying it did wonders for pinning after only 1 day.
Is this a coincidence or do you guys have experience with this?

Thanks!

I heard from RR some minutes of sun light is beneficial for cubes. Also cubes grows in open fields so in nature they may get some sun light.

Cubensis enjoys the shade.

However, 5-10 minutes of direct sunlight COULD be beneficial because as we all know the sun rises and sets, so some spots that are shady will not be shady all day. I wouldn't bet my full canopy on it but I couldn't see it hurting.

You misunderstand it.  Light has little to do with orientation other than that mycelium is deriving energy from the light and orients the caps towards it for maximum benefit.  Mushrooms grown in total darkness will be weak, light and thin, but will grow straight up, away from gravity.

For best results, a few minutes of direct sunlight per day will work wonders, along with 12 hours of bright, but diffused light. Whether it comes from a lamp or the sun makes little difference indoors. Most mushrooms in nature fruit in areas where they get at least some direct sun each day.

For those of you using artificial lighting, look for 6500 kelvin color temperature.  It's proved best for mushroom growing.

:raisemyglass:,

I just made my fruiting area a little shadier but they get direct light. Hopefully this simulates nature.

It's hard to say if something like that works if it starts pinning or if it's a coincidence but give it try.

This is exactly it. I tried it but I don't have enough experience and didn't have any controls to know if it was coincidental or from it.
I've been doing it daily and see lots of new pinning daily for about 3 days now.
I'll try on my next round to separate half that get sunlight and half that don't and see what the differences are.
