Bags too tall for hood?

Hey guys, so the FH in my sig is 18" tall, works great for jars, but Im making the switch to bags.
My bags stand up pretty close to the top, pouring my quarts in will be tricky to keep in the flow.
Is there a trick to G2G into spawn bags? I have 4 bags in the PC from last night that I need to inoculate.
Trim the bags a little?
Thanks!

Heres a bag I was practing the motions on in front of the hood

Nah, you're just going to have to develop your own technique of keeping the vessel's opening directly downstream of the flowhood's laminar flow of air while inoculation procedures are performed.
RR uses a small flowhood. In RR's videos, if you check out the sawdust sections, he displays his technique of inoculating large gusseted spawn bags full of sterilized woodchips from which you can expand upon. Same principles apply with the inoculation of sterilized grain substrates in spawn bags.

Haha yea I was just practicing a bit and realized I could open the bag at an angle and pour in... seemed a lot trickier in my head to keep everything in the flow
Ill check out that vid maybe the visual will help me
Thanks loaf

bring your fh close to the edge of the table and when pouring into bags your going to have to drop the bottom of the bag over the edge of table and under the flow of the hood. this way the top of the bag and jars have all the flow hood fresh air needed above the edge of the table.. just a thought..?

That is another obvious solution, if i left enough of a lip to set the jar on so I could hold the bottom of the bag with one hand and pour with the other
Actually man the sawdust section only showed him loading bags all the way to the PC cycle, any know which segment shows him pouring inti the bags?

Nah, you're right. There isn't. Sorry. Still though, you are imaginative and innovative enough to realize that your own technique of inoculating bags with your size of flowhood needs to be developed by you.

Right on man!
Still... I feel better afer asking first... make sure there isnt some real obvious trick I didnt pick up on haha.
I think pulling the hood a little closer to the edge and kinda angling the bag into the flow should work out well. Thanks guys!
Ill let you know how it went. So I just bunch up the top nice and zip tie yea?

Nah, my bad again. I just cross referenced my copy of the video and it's in the "Sawdust Inoculation" section. So sorry for all the flip-flopping, mushpunx.

Ok so that was a nightmare.
It went OK but was definitly clumbsy the first time from un practiced hands. Probably OK though. After watching RR again I dont think it was as sloppy as I thought I was being, the next guys should be much better.
The bottom two bags, ugh they must have sunk underneath the jar rings a little bit and touched the bottom of the shitty presto and melted. Definitley thinking about an upgrade in PC.
What a mess!!

Alright so round two. Asked a lot of questions and worked out most of the kinks.
I pulled the FH close to the edge of my table and set the spawm bags on the stool, which sits maybe 6 inchs lower than the table. This makes it easy to stand the bag up open, pour in my innoculant, then tilt the bag towards the hood to fill it with clean air. Then I slide the impulse sealer around the back of the bag, and seal the bag facing the FH.
Seemed *very* smooth, I like it alot. Still need practice but I think Ill get there
Thanks for all thr help!

The table I have must have been for a kid or something cause its so short but the stool works for this haha
I still love the drawer idea I might use that in the future. I also tried innoculating with the bag on the FH table and it was fine but clumbsy the first time.
Icon- thankz man that means something!

i like to put my flowhood far away from the ground.I like to stand and I was always told there are more and more contams the further you go down a room. I dont know if its true but im sure my floor is nastier then my ceiling.
