Mycelium or Mould?
    #2133709 - 11/24/03 10:09 PM (20 years, 4 months ago)

Hello! below is a link to my first attempt at mushroom cultivation.
Would you please look at the picture and help me determine whether this is Mould or Mycelium?

I know the picture isnt very clear but maybe experienced shroomers would know
They have been innoculated for just under 2 weeks now, I thought there should be more mycelium by now - if it isnt mould, obviously my conditions arnt quite right.
Any info would be appreciated please

I agree, it grows in the same pattern as mycelium.

Any suggestions as to why it is growing so slowly?

it could be a variety of things from the moisture content of your substrate to the amount of spore solution you used. Before beginning this of course you would have done all the prerequisite research and you know that using a heavier spore injection results in faster colonization.

That pic is horrid. But stalled jars usually indicate a couple things: Too much moisture, lack of air exchange, improper incubation temps, the substrate could be too packed (this goes along with too much water) or a contam (smell it to find out).

I can't see anything in those pics.... If it's slow-growing white shit it's mycelium. As long as it keeps growing it's fine -- if it stops growing altogether there's a problem.

I would put them in a warm dark place and forget about them for about a week. As long as the are sealed pretty good I would suggest the hotwater heater closet.
