Brownish clump on casing - time to toss?
    #21337044 - 02/27/15 07:27 AM (9 years, 10 months ago)

Here are the specifics:

I had 10 colonized cakes. I took 5 and tried a casing for the first time. I sliced them, cucumber-style and crumbled the other two around the slices. Casing is sterilized Jiffy Mix / Oyster shells. The other 5 cakes I'm trying to fruit normally. I placed both cakes and casing pan in the same SGFC. Ironically, the casing is continuing to colonize rapidly -- the casing is less than a week old -- while the cakes are just sitting there. Two of them have starting growing one mushroom each. If it matters, the strain is Brazilian.

The brown clump troubles me. There are other, smaller ones that are hard to see in the picture.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Never mind. I plucked it with a tweezers and it turned out to be a large clump of oyster shell. I just have a bad case of the contam jitters.
