So I want an impulse sealer

I've wanted an impulse sealer for quite some time but my worry is the seal. They are notorious for developing pinholes here and there and you must be careful when shaking/kneading bags as to not pop the seal but I just stumbled across this
http://www.ebay.com/itm/6-Portable-Hand-held-Jaw-Poly-Bag-or-Tubing-Sealer-/161450421753
And it seems like the best thing since sliced bread as it makes a 1/2in seal as opposed to the thin wire seal.
Does anyone have any experience with this type of sealer? Obviously it's not for everyone since it is limited in size but I use bags that are 5in wide so it should work for me no?

looks bad ass man.I think it would work but i have never had a single bag break at the seal when massaging grains with the regular impulse sealers.

I dunno. Maybe I've only used cheap sealers for food and stuff but I don't wanna prep all my gourmet bags and have to throw them out because of a shifty seal.

There are plenty that are tried and true, its not really a debate that they work. The pin holes you are talking about come from sealing bags before pressure cooking. this is the one i use I would like to hear from someone who has trouble using these sealers.

Like I said I've only ever used cheap food vac sealers that didnt seem to seal completely or just a ragged seal.
They probably do work fine as plenty of people use them I'd just like to find something that has a bit of a wider seal than 2mm (wire size)

Ok so a follow up question when impulse sealing.
When I go to seal a gusseted bag do I keep the top as open as possible or gusset it back up?
This matters because of thickness and also width and will ultimately determine what model I have to buy.

you want to gusset it back up before you seal it.

And there's no issue with the different thicknesses? as in towards the middle of the bag where there's only 1 layer?
