Repeated Contaminations- Old Plastic Tubs?
    #21333466 - 02/26/15 02:49 PM (9 years, 10 months ago)

Is it standard to throw out the entire plastic tub when a monotub contaminates?

I'm using tubs from over a year ago that were used succesfully but also, at the end of their use had contaminations. Now I'm having troubles with green mold which I think might be due to the old tubs still containing large unseen populations of green mold spores.

I sprayed with bleach and scrubbed down before use, as well as a soap and water rinse. Is it possible that these tubs are thoroughly contaminated and should be thrown out? The jars were from agar and seemed fine, the substrate was pasteurized well. Another factor is their size, 105 qt which is on the very large end. I might find new smaller ones to see if it solves the problem.

no. its chemically inert, a complete synthetic.

Most of the time, its going to be your spawn to blame.

Are your tubs contaminating before the first flush?  Is fruiting taking place in the area where you suffered peril at the cost of a contamination outbreak?

Your cause of contamination to me sounds like it's coming from the massive populations of mold spores that now are in your fruiting area caused by your past generations and is now causing peril to your future generations.

I would clean those areas in the same fashion and degree that you describe the cleaning of your tubs.

Some contaminates look similar to healthy mycelium and you don't notice them till they sporulate when FAE is introduced.

double check your spawn prep and your substrate prep.

Grab a fan open a window point the fan to the outside.... Have another fan point it inside from a window. There will still be mold spores but its a good way to loose alot of them I also had the same problem as u guys

I was thinking maybe taking a day and washing / vacuuming/ dusting everything and then carrying my flow hood in there let it scrub the air for a day?

At least scrub out the grow room, rest of the house cant be saved haha
